Pandora Station Status Report by Bram Peeters
====================================================================
*** Current Situation ***
Stardate: 2391.03.06
Only two hours after the Solstice had started her mission of mapping
the planet Tollaxana, something had been detected among the ruins of
what had been one of the larger cities of the planet. Something on
the planet was emitting a faint energy signal. Most likely it would
be something visitors of the planet had left behind, because none of
the earlier missions to the planet had detected anything similar, and
the location of the signal had been close to the location of an
earlier mission. An away team - Capt Janssens, Lt Ryaanax, Ens
Jalando and Ens Ja'al - was sent to the planet to investigate what
the signal was.
At first the signal had disappeared but not much later it was
detected again. The source of the signal was a strange platform in
the middle of a large building. While scanning the platform, Capt
Janssens discovered what the platform was used for by accidentally
activating the device, transporting him to another platform in a city
260 kilometres away.
A second away team (Cmdr Essar, Ens Murdock and Ens Brannagh) is now
on their way to that platform, and hopefully one or both away teams
will be able to determine how these platforms work.
On the Solstice Dr Vok was having a musical 'crisis' in sickbay
resulting in a complete shutdown of the entire deck, and Couns
Mishbano is trying to help Crewman Krewmann who is seeing Pink
Bunnies everywhere. A medical team has been sent to assist Lt
Mishbano.

Stardate 2391.01.24
Using the ship's phasers, the USS Odyssey and the USS Valkyrie have
managed to avert disaster by diverting the water away from the
fractured dam, allowing it to be repaired. Things are settling down,
and the final loose ends are being tied up as this situation draws to
a close.

====================================================================
USS VALKYRIE STATUS REPORT - 2391.01.24:
Despite the arrival of the USS Odyssey, the situation on the surface
of New Amsterdam continues to worsen, now that a large dam has burst,
threatening to flood an entire valley and drowning a great amount of
people.
After a joint operation between both ships, involving a bombardment
using phaser fire, disaster is averted and the colony is saved. With
the planet's inexplicable geological instability subsiding as well,
all that is left now is to tie up the final loose ends.

The STFF-teling meeting by Rob Versteegt

article, please visit these links:
http://merijn.wafel.net/gallery/ for Merijn's photos and

Guido's photos.)
It was the 26th of August. The 3rd birthday of ST Frontier Fleet. The
day that the Dutch members of Frontier Fleet were going on a
mission... of exploration and recreation.
It was 0910. The atmosphere nearby the train station of Den Bosch was
tense. Ben and Rob Versteegt had already arrived at the scene. They
were eagerly awaiting the arrival of most of the other Dutch FF
members. Rob looked at a window, to see his reflection. "How is my
hair?" he asked Ben. "Fine..." Ben answered, without even looking at
his twin brother. He was too busy being nervous, to occupy himself
with such trivial things as 'looks'.
A few minutes later, a train stopped at one of the platforms. 2
people stepped out. "Well, we're here." One of them said. "Let's go
see what these new members are all about..." he sighed. "Let's get
this over with." With a firm nod, and an 'uhuh', the 2, who were also
FF members, went outside. They walked towards 3 other people. 2 of
them were also FF members, one other just came because he knew the
rest.
Ben tapped Rob on the shoulder. "Here they come!" he said. He had
been studying the pictures of all the members, so he knew how they
would look. Both brothers pulled their uniforms straight, and walked
towards the 5, who were now walking out of the doors.
~No, not again!~ Guido, one of the 5 members, thought. ~Why do new
members always have to appear in dress uniforms, when we have an IRL
meeting????~ He felt a certain need to rip those uniforms off of
those 2, tear them apart, and throw them away, but he controlled
himself. "These are FF members Guido." He said to himself. "Treat
them like members. We can't afford to loose members..."
Nevertheless, Ben and Rob saw the anger in Guido's face, and in all
of the other's faces. ~This does not look good!~ Ben thought. The 2
brothers looked at each other, and, simultaneously, shouted: "RUN!"
The 2 started to run away from the 5, but, unfortunately for the 2
brothers, the 5, consisting of Guido, Bram, another Rob, Merijn and
Paul, gained up on them. "Let's get out of here!" Rob shouted, but it
was too late. They couldn't go anywhere. They were surrounded by FF
members.
For a while, none of them said a word. Then, suddenly, Rob (the twin
one, not the other one) held out his hand, and said, nervously: "I'm
Rob... Nice to meet you..."
"Take of those uniforms!" Merijn said. The twin brothers quickly did
what Merijn and the others wanted (they outranked the twins), and
after a few minutes, the uniforms were put back into their bags, and
they had 'normal' clothing on.
"Much better." commented Bram. "Now, welcome to the club." He held
out his hand, and so did the other 4. Ben and Rob were surprised.
They had expected to be beaten up by this group, but instead, they
were greeted in a friendly way. After shaking hands, everybody
introduced themselves. There were Bram, who played CO Janssens,
Guido, who played CO Main, Merijn, who played FO Essar, and Rob, who
played FO (CO to be) Bennek. Ben and Rob also introduced themselves,
Ben played ACEO Velden, and Rob played ACSO Jalando.
Ben and Rob looked at Paul, the only one who hadn't introduced
himself. "Who do you play?" they asked. Paul sighed. "I'm no member
of FF." He said. "I just came because I like the Efteling, and to
carry your bags..." He was a bit humiliated, for the carrying of the
bags part, but it was true. It was the only way for him to go to the
Efteling...
About half an hour later, Walter, a former member of FF, arrived.
Together, all 8 of them went into the bus, and they were on their way
to the amusement park, called the Efteling.
Once there, Guido and Bram ordered everybody to have fun. So that's
what they did. And that's what you see on the pictures.

Another Andorian Incident by Rob Versteegt
====================================================================
It was a peaceful morning at starbase 311. The crew of the Alpha
shift manned their stations, and the Graveyard-crew went to sleep.
The Captain sat down in her chair. She moved a bit on that chair.
~Stupid night-shift ensigns.~ she thought. ~They never sit on this
chair like they are supposed to. As a result, the stuffing in this
chair isn't divided equally. Guess who's job it is to divide it
again
~ She sighed. ~It's not easy being a Captain
~
Suddenly she heard a sound. She quickly looked over to the
Ops-console, where Lt.Cmdr Barsum was standing. "Commander." She
said. "What's that beeping sound I hear?" Barsum looked at his
console. "A ship has dropped out of warp Ma'am." He said. "They are
requesting to dock." The Captain looked at her First Officer. "There
aren't supposed to be any ships in the area." She looked back at
Barsum again. "Open a channel."
A few lights were pressed, and soon the image of an Andorian was
displayed on the viewscreen. "This is Captain Ho'ka'al." The Andorian
said. "Of the Andorian battle ship So'ka. If you don't mind Captain,
my men require shore-leave. Could we please dock, and come aboard?"
"I am Captian Yllana." The Captain said. "Of course you may dock, but
we would like to have some questions answered. For example: What are
you doing on that battle ship? I thought the Andorians were part of
the Federation?" Captain Ho'ka'al smiled. "In these difficult times
Andoria doesn't have to rely on the Federation to protect itself. We
thought you would be pleased that we are helping you defend our
homeworld." Captain Yllana wanted to ask some more questions, but the
Andorian on the viewscreen spoke first. "Captain, it has been a long
trip. Can we please dock, so that my troops can have some shore
leave? Or are you afraid of a few Andorians on your station?"
Yllana smiled. "Of course not, Captain. I ment no disrespect. You are
clear to dock at dockingport 6. Yllana out." The image of the
Andorian captain disappeared from the viewscreen. But Yllana's
worries didn't disappear with it. "Ko'tal" she said to her security
officer, who was also an Andorian. "I don't recall Andoria having
ships of their own." "They always have had them Captain." Ko'tal
answered. "They just never used them. They trusted the Federation to
protect them. If that trust has somehow been compromised, they will
protect themselves, with their own ships." "Then it's up to us to
find out if that trust has indeed been compromised, or if there is an
other reason why this ship is over here. Ko'tal, I want you to post
extra security guards in key areas of the station." "Captain?"
Ko'tal objected. But the Captain already made up her mind. "Just in
case..."
About half an hour later the promenade was crawling with Andorians.
Ko'tal watched them, as they enjoyed themselves, by drinking,
gambling and shouting at security officers. "So you are Ko'tal." One
said to him. Ko'tal turned to the direction where the voice cam from,
and saw the Captain of the Andorian vessel standing there. "I am
Captain Ho'ka'al. But you already knew that." Ko'tal nodded. "I was
in Ops when you hailed us." Ho'ka'al smiled. "Yes, I saw you. I must
admit, seeing an Andorian in this uniform..." "What's wrong with this
uniform?" Ko'tal said. He immediately jumped into a defensive
posture. "Nothing's wrong with it..." the Captain replied. "It's
just... Well, it doesn't suit you." Ko'tal turned his head away from
Ho'ka'al. "I think it does." The Andorian Captain still gazed at
Ko'tal. "Have you ever considered..." he said, "of leaving
Starfleet?" Ko'tal quickly said "No." But he was lying, and he knew
it. There were times when he did think about resigning. Times where
things weren't easy for 'Aliens' like himself. Although the
Federation consisted of many different species, the human culture was
still the one culture that was most recognizable in the Federation.
All those, for Ko'tal, strange customs, like shaking hands and eating
with knife and fork... they were difficult to adapt to. Many times he
had wondered if he wouldn't be better of back on Andoria... Where he
was among his own species, with his own customs...
"Too bad." The Andorian Captain said. "You'd fit in well with us!"
With these words, he walked away, leaving Ko'tal behind, who was
thinking again about resigning...
A few days past. Nothing special had happened, although every senior
officer kept an eye on the Andorians. They didn't act like the
Andorians they all knew: Those Andorians were civilized. But these...
These Andorians were looking for fights, drank too much, and some of
them were even arrested for misconduct! Yes, these last few days had
been difficult, especially for Ko'tal, who's reunion with his people
didn't go the way he had hoped. He had become the laughing stock of
the Andorians, at least, of the these Andorians. And now, he was
almost grateful to see them go. They had done nothing but tease him
about him being in Starfleet. If he didnt know better, he'd say that
they had developed a disliking of the Federation.
But now, it was time for those Andorians to leave. Their shore-leave
was over, their ship was to go back to Andorian space. And as the
Andorian battle ship went into warp, the security on Starbase 311 was
reduced to normal efficiency.
Captain Yllana sat in here chair again. "Well, there go our guests."
She said, to no-one in particular. "Too bad we didn't..." She
couldn't finish here sentence. A huge explosion shook the station.
Yllana fell out of the Captain's chair. The other officers, present
at Ops, also had difficulties staying on their feet. Another
explosion. This time, some conduits ruptured, and gas began venting
out of the broken plasma conduits. "Seal that leak!" Yllana shouted,
trying to get over the noise of systems that were exploding. A third
explosion, this one heavier then the ones before. More panels and
conduits exploded, and everyone was smacked against the ground. Then,
things got quiet.
Yllana tried to move towards the Captains chair. She pulled herself
up, but fell down again. A flash of pain went through her, as she
tried to get up again. She shouted out in pain. "My leg!" Max, the
science officer, crawled towards the captain. He tapped his
commbadge. "Maxwell to sickbay! Medical emergency! Send medical teams
to the bridge!" There came no response. "The comm systems are
off-line!" Barsum shouted. "Until we get main power back on line,
most systems will be inoperable!" He looked around. Most officers
were still lying on the ground. They were all injured, one more then
another. Maxwell and Barsum were the only officers who could still
stand up. "Ensign Maxwell! Assist me with these power couplings!"
Barsum commanded. But Maxwell didn't do as he was ordered. "Captain?"
he shouted. "CAPTAIN!!!" The Captain didn't respond. "Sir!" Maxwell
shouted, to Barsum. "The Captain... she fainted..." He grabbed a
medical kit, opened it, and used the tricorder on the Captain. "I'm
losing her lifesigns!" The tricorder started beeping, in irregular
way. He quickly gave the Captain an hypospray. "There." He said,
bitterly. "Ive put her in a coma..." He stood up. "It was the only
way... to save her..."
Half an hour later Barsum had partial power back on line. The Captain
was brought to sickbay, along with all the other officers that were
hurt. There were so many injured, the doctor had to put up a triage
centre in one of the cargo bays. In Ops, only a few senior officers
were present. Barsum, who was still trying to get main power back on
line, was one of them. "Done." He said to himself. "Sensors are back
on line." He had a look at his console, that was partially working.
"O my God..." he said. "The upper decks of the Starbase... They're...
Gone!" "What do you mean Sir?" Maxwell asked. "They can't just be
gone?" "That is precisely what they are. Gone. In the explosions, the
first 6 decks were destroyed." He looked at some sensor readings,
that were coming in as they spoke. "The promenade is gone... heavy
damage to engineering
and crew quarters..." He looked up, at
Maxwell. "There was a hull breach at crew quarters... An emergency
shield has been erected, but I'm reading less lifesigns then before
the accident..." The once so emotionless human, now began to cry. "My
wife was there..."
-------------
2 days later
-------------
Starbase 311 had recieved some help from the USS Endeavor.
Engineering crews were working as fast as they could, but it would
take some time before the Starbase would be fully operational. The
Captain was still in a coma, but the rest of the senior officers were
released from sickbay. The First Officer of Starbase 311, a Bolian
with the name of Zoll was in command now. He was sitting in the
Captain's ready room, when he heard the doorchime. "Enter." He said.
Lt. Ko'tal stepped inside. "Sabotage Sir." He said, coming straight
to the point. "What happened 2 days ago, was sabotage. We found the
remains of 3 explosive devices near the area's that were hit the
worst." He paused for a while. "Sir, the explosives were... Andorian
in origin." Zoll stood up. "Andorian? You mean..." "That is precisely
what I mean Sir." Ko'tal said. "I mean the Andorians who were here,
could have planted the bombs, and detonated it from a distance." Zoll
started walking around the room. "You know what this could mean?" he
asked the security chief. "Yes Sir." Was the answer. "It could lead
to war with the Andorians."
War. It was the last thing anyone wanted. And now it seemed the
Federation was on the dawn of a new conflict... A conflict with an
ally. Zoll didn't really know what to do. "Get me Starfleet Command."
He said. "I need to explain this to them..."
In the mean time, Barsum was in Sickbay. "Thank goodness you
survived..." he said, to a woman. "I don't know what I'll do without
you. The woman he was talking to was his wife. She had 3rd degree
burns all over her body. It wasn't a pretty sight. Still, the doctor
said she was going to make a full recovery. It would just take time.
Barsum knew it would be hard, but he would help his wife the best he
could. This certainly wasnt an easy time for her...
Zoll stapped out of the Captain ready room. He tapped his commbadge.
All hands, this is the acting Captain. He sighed. He didnt really
know how to tell this to the crew, so he just told them. ~They
deserve to know.~ I have spoken with Starfleet Command. They have
asked the Andorian government for an explanation. The Andorian
government said that they deeply regret what has happened here, and
that they know who did it. They just wont do anything about it.
Zoll gave the crew time to process this information, before he
carried on. Starfleet has reacted by strongly condemning the
Andorian unwillingness to cooperate. In response, Andoria has
stepped out of the Federation. The Andorians are no longer part of
the Federation. They have recalled all of their ships to their own
space, and warned all Federation ships to stay away. The Andorians
have become
our enemies.
-------------
1 year later
-------------
On board the USS Antilope, a Norway class starship, the crew was on
emergency stand-by. They were patrolling the Federation-Andorian
border. ~A lot of ships have been destroyed here, the last few
months.~ Lt. Okuda thought. ~Id hate to see the Antilope become one
of them
~ She looked back, towards the Tactical station. There stood
one of the few remaining Andorians in Starfleet, lt.cmdr Kotal.
Okuda didnt trust him. Never trust an Andorian. Her father had
said, when she left her home at Utopia Planetia, to be stationed on
the Antilope. they always tell lies. Okuda didnt believe her
father. She had dated an Andorian, just before the war broke out. She
really loved him, and she thought he loved her. But alas, when the
war broke out, he was called back to Andoria, to fight against the
Federation, and maybe even against her.
2 Andorian battle ships closing fast! Kotal read from his panel.
Red Alert! the captain with the name of Bujold, ordered. Within
seconds, the bridge of this Norway class starship was on emergency
lights only, with an occasional red light, to indicate the ship was
indeed at red alert. Weapons are ready! Kotal said. But before he
could fire them, the Andorian vessels already opened fire. The ship
was shaking. Fire! the Captain shouted. Reroute emergency power to
shields! This helped a lot. The shaking stopped, and the Antilope
fired Quantum torpedos at the Andorian battle ships. One of them is
damaged. Kotal said. The other is coming towards us! On the
viewscreen the whole brigde crew saw a massive ship coming towards
them. They are trying to ram us! Captain Bujold said. He sat down
in his chair. Evasive manoeuvres, full impulse! Okuda replied. Yes
sir! She touched a few buttons, and the ship flew away from the
Andorian vessel. This was what the Andorians had been waiting for.
Without any warning, they fired everything they got at the Antilope.
The ship was shaking now more then ever, and consoles started to
blow. Shields are down! Kotal shouted. Weapons are gone!
Structural integrity is at 25 %, and dropping! Captain, we have to
evacuate! Bujold sighed, while even more conduits exploded. All
hands. She said. This is the Captain. Abandon ship. I repeat,
abandon ship!
Within minutes, the bridge was virtually empty. Only Kotal, Okuda
and the Bujold were still present. Captain! the Andorian said. We
must
He couldnt finish his sentence. They were beamed up, while a
phasershot from the Andorian vessel hit the Norway class. The
Antilope, and all the people aboard, who couldnt get into the escape
pods, were destroyed.
Insite the Andorian ship, Bujold, Okuda and Kotal rematerialized.
They were greeted by Andorians in uniforms, aiming their disruptor
rifles at them. Come with us! one of the Andorians said. The 3
officers complied. They didnt feel like dying. It took them a while,
but finally, under escort of course, they came on the Andorian
bridge, where they saw, on the viewscreen, the wreckage of the
Antilope, and the escape pods, which were trying to get away from it.
Well Captain. The Andorian in the Captains chair said. You will
surrender yourself to me. The response of Bujold was to be
predicted. Never! The Andorian captain smiled, and pushed a button.
On the viewscreen, Bujold saw that the Andorian battle ship was
firing at one of the escape pods. It blew up, as soon as the phaser
hit the pod. What are you doing! he shouted. Those people didnt
do anything to you! The Andorian Captain kept smiling. Now you know
what will happen if you dont obey me
Bujold sighed, and
reluctantly said: Fine. I surrender.
The Andorian Captain spoke a few Andorian words to the helmsman, and
he turned the ship around. Captain Bujold looked at Kotal for a
translation. Were heading back to Andoria
he said.
5 hours later, the 3 officers were sitting in a holding cell, on the
planet Andoria. This wasnt what anybody in the Federation would call
a holding cell. Those cells were small, but well lighted, with a
force field as the only exit. This holding cell was more like an
old-fashion prison. There was no force field, the room was a lot
bigger, and there was no lighting to speak of. What now Captain?
Okuda asked. Bujold raised his shoulders. I dont know lieutenant.
We are now prisoners of war. Anything can happen. Okuda sighed.
Their future didnt look too bright right now. Suddenly they heard a
voice from behind them. Well, its not often we have outsiders for
visitors. The 3 officers looked towards the end of the room. There
they saw another Andorian, sitting against the wall. Well? The
Andorian said. Are you going to introduce yourselves? Captain
Bujold didnt answer. He just kept on staring towards the Andorian.
Finally he spoke. You first
Who are you, and why are you in here?
The Andorian sighed. I knew you were going to tell me that. Very
well. He stood up, and walked towards the 3 officers. My name is
Drell, and they put me here for treachery to the state. Okudas
eyes suddenly glittered. Drell? she asked. Is it you? Drell
looked at the lieutenant. Michelle? The two flew into each others
arms. For a moment, the cell was filled with complete silence. But
then the Captain asked: Lieutenant
Who is this?
Lt. Okuda smiled. this is
Drell. She said, with a smile on her
face. He was
is my boyfriend
Bujold looked at the pair, and
Kotal smiled. Your boyfriend? Okuda wanted to say something, but
before she could, Drell spoke. We met at Risa. He said. The first
time we were together, we knew we were made for each other. But
His
sorrow was visible in his eyes. When this stupid war broke out, I
had to go back to Andoria. He looked at his love. I never meant to
leave you
Okuda smiled, and put her head against his chest. I
know
Normally, Captain Bujold would have left the 2 alone, but not this
time. I understand that you want to be together, after such a long
time, he said, but Id like to go now
He turned to Drell. Do
you know a way out of here? Drell sighed. Getting out of here
isnt the hard part. He said. Do you see that wall? He pointed at
a wall, with a window in it. Bujold studied the wall, but he couldnt
find anything out of the ordinary. So? he asked. Whats the matter
with it? The Andorian prisoner smiled. Theres a hole in it.
Bujold looked again, and again, but he didnt see it. But before he
could say anything, Kotal stepped forward, walked towards the wall,
searched to ground, which was filled with some sort of straw. He put
some of that straw aside, on picked up a small device. Just as I
thought. He said. He pushed some buttons, and suddenly, a part of
the wall disappeared. A hole in the wall was now clearly visible. A
hologram. Bujold said. of course
I thought it was something like this. Kotal said. Drell smiled.
I could never fool you Kotal! It is good to see you again! Kotal
also put a grin on his face. It has been too long. I should have
come to Andoria, to visit you, but
They were interrupted by Okuda.
This time it was her turn to be surprised. You
know each other?
Drell nodded. Were childhood friends! he said. But when Kotal
went to join Starfleet, we lost contact. Kotal sighed. A mistake,
I still regret. I should have called you sooner. Drell hit the
other Andorian on his shoulder. Dont worry! he said. We are
together again! He put one arm around Kotals neck, and the other
one on Okudas. I never expected you both to be here!
It was Bujold who snapped the 3 back to reality. We are still
prisoners. He looked at Drell. You said you knew a way out?
Drell nodded. As I said, getting out is no problem. Getting past
the guards, is. I never could elude those guards. They are Artoks
finest. The 3 starfleet officers looked at Drell with a surprised
look. Artok?
Drell turned on the holographic device, so that the hole couldnt be
seen. Then he put the device under the layer of straw, and sat down.
The others followed his example. Precisely one year ago, a terrorist
group called The liberators took over the Andorian government.
Drell said. They caught us completely by surprise. There was no
warning. From one day onto the other, Andoria was under the
leadership of a dictator. Artok. Kotal said. Yeah, Ive heard of
him. But the Federation got information that the people of Andoria
had chosen a new leader! Drell nodded again. Thats what they
wanted you to believe. They locked up everybody who knew the truth .
Thats how I got in here. He paused, and looked at the floor. But
anyway, he continued. Artok ordered everybody to do what he said,
or else they would be locked op to, or even worse
O my God. Okuda
replied. You mean that most of the Andorians we met, and fought last
year, didnt want war with the Fedaration? There are some, Drell
continued, Who have been longing for war, especially with the
Federation. They were put in command of all those ships. The crews
were told to obey them, or they would die.
Drell paused again. I was one of the people who knew what had
happened
So I got thrown in this cell
He smiled. Luckily I
smuggled this holodevice with me
Bujold interrupted Drell. If we
can let the Federation know whats going on here
he said. Then we
might be able to finally stop this war! Lt. Okuda, who had been
standing near Drell all the time, stepped forward, and said: Well,
what are we waiting for! Lets go
and send a distress call to
Starfleet!
It was decided. That night, at the shifting of the security guards,
he wall-hologram was deactivated, and 2 Andorians and 2 humans
crawled all the way through the long tunnel, Drell had dug. After 15
minutes, they saw a light. They quickly climbed out of the tunnel.
They looked around. Nobody had followed them. But they werent out of
trouble yet. They were now out of the cell, but not out of the
building. They pressed themselves against the walls, while Drell
looked around the corner. 3 guards. He said. Armed with Andorian
disruptor rifles. Kotal smiled. Just like in the old days, my
friend. The 4 sneaked out of their hiding place, towards the 3
Andorian guards. Those guards were standing with their backs in the
directions of the 4 prisoners, so they didnt see them. But Andorians
have antennae
The 3 guards picked up some vibrations with their antennae, so they
turned around. They saw the prisoners, and wanted to fire their
rifles, but it was too late. A few seconds later the 3 guards were
lying on the ground, unconscious, while Bujold, Okuda and Drell
picked up the rifles. Kotal picked up one of the Andorians knifes.
Dont worry. He said. I know how to use one of those. Drell
smiled at that remark. Too bad you didnt knew how to use that in
our last match
I won, remember? Kotal shake his head. No
he
said, puzzled
I dont
He then pointed the knife at Drell. Okuda
and Bujold pointed their weapons at Kotal. Commander! Bujold
shouted. What are you doing?
I dont think he can be trusted. Kotal said, while he still held
his knife against Drells throat. The escape from our cell, the
holographic device, and this
overtaking 3 highly trained Andorians
he looked at Bujold and Okuda. Dont you see? Hes leading us into a
trap!
Thats not true! Okuda shouted. I know him! I love him! He
wouldnt do anything like that! Drell smiled at Kotal. You should
listen to her. She knows me best. And besides
he looked into
Kotals eyes. Dont you trust your friend?
Kotal lowered his knife, as he looked at the 2 other Starfleet
officers. You gotta believe me! I
A quick blow, and he collapsed.
Bujold and Okuda looked at Drell, with amazement. Drell, who had
given Kotal a blow on his neck, explained himself, by saying: Im
sorry Captain, Michelle. But Kotal was becoming paranoid. He was a
danger to this mission. I had to incapacitate him. Bujold was
shocked. There could have been an other way
He sighed. But done
is done
I hope hes not dead? Drell grinned. O no Captain. He
said. Hes just unconscious. Might I suggest we hide him somewhere,
so that the other Andorians dont find him? Bujold agreed, and the
three of them dragged the now unconscious Kotal into a corner. Hed
be safe here. Drell said. Now lets go find a communications
terminal, and contact Starfleet.
While the 3 were walking away, Bujold looked at Kotal for one last
time
~I wonder if he will be safe
~ He walked back, and put down his
rifle. ~Now he is able to defend himself.~ With these thoughts, and
the knife he picked up, he walked away.
5 minutes, and only 2 Andorian soldiers, later, the 3 entered a room,
where they saw a communications panel. ~That was easy.~ Bujold
thought. He took over the rifle from Okuda, who went to work on the
panel. I have access. Okuda said, after a while. Im trying to
send a message
A beeping sound on the panel, and suddenly, an alarm
went of. The room filled with Andorian soldiers, who appeared just
behind the large pedestals, which were at the sides of the room.
Bujold and Okuda knew they were surrounded. They looked at Drell,
who started laughing. Kotal was right! Okuda said, with tears in
her eyes. But he couldnt have been! I
I loved you! Drells laugh
went louder and louder. You silly human! he said. I could never
fall in love with someone like you! You are so
weak!
But
why? Bujold asked, as his rifle was being taken away from him.
You were a prisoner. You were just like us
Wrong! Drell
shouted. His voice echoed through the room. It sounded like thunder.
I can never be like you! I will never be like you! Im stronger,
superior
As I said
You are weak. Its only a matter of time before
the Federation will fall on its knees, before the Andorian empire!
And that day will come very soon! a voice said. Everybody looked to
the rear of the room, and bowed. Bujold and Okuda were forced down on
their knees. Artok! Drell took another deep bow. My Lord, I have
brought you these people. Excellent! the Andorian dictator said.
You have proven where your loyalty lies. He turned towards the 2
starfleet officers, who were still down on their knees. You see
Starfleet, Artok said. Your little attempt to escape was all
carefully planned. We wanted to see if Drell here was loyal to me.
By betraying his friend and his former lover, he has proven that he
can be trusted. He turned towards some other guards. Take those 2
away. They are to be put to death. Their deaths will be broadcasted
on all frequencies, to show the Federation they cannot mess with us!
The guards grabbed hold of the 2 starfleet officers. They were hauled
away
To meet their deaths
Meanwhile Kotal recovered from the blow on his neck. He quickly
regained consciousness, grabbed the rifle, that was lying on the
ground, and went to search for his missing comrades. He knew for
certain that Drell had defected, and that he couldnt be trusted
anymore. After he had walked a while, he heard a lot of footsteps,
coming his way. He quickly hid behind some of the pedestals. He
carefully looked at the group, without being seen. There he saw
Bujold and Okuda, who were being pushed forward, as if they were
captured animals. He also saw Drell, walking next to
~Artok.~
Kotal thought. For a moment, he thought about shooting Artok, so
that they were rid of that horrible dictator
but he didnt. He
stayed in his place, until nobody was left in the hallway anymore.
Kotal came out of hiding. He looked around
No, nobody was there. He
quickly, but silently, went towards the room, where the
communications panel was. The same room where Drell had betrayed
Bujold and Okuda, in favor of Artok. Kotal entered the room, but
there was still one guard left. ~I dont have time for this.~ Kotal
thought. He aimed the rifle, and fired at the guard. Kotal saw him
vaporizing in front of him. Now there was nobody left between him and
the comm panel. He noticed that Okuda had written a message to
Starfleet, but that she hadnt send it yet. Kotal read the message.
To Starfleet. It said. Artok of Andoria is a dictator. 3 starfleet
officers are being held captive. Please send help. Kotal pushed a
few buttons, and transmitted the message. But at the same time he did
that, the alarms went of. Dozens of Andorian guards materialized all
around Kotal. He was able to shoot one or two, before he got shot
himself. The last thing he remembered was seeing the guards, with a
big grin on their faces.
Kotal! somebody shouted. Kotal, wake up! the Andorian opened
his eyes. His head hurt, so he wanted to move his hands to his head,
but he couldnt. He looked at his arms. They were tied up, so he
couldnt move. He sighed. ~Trapped like a beast.~ He looked besides
him, where he saw Captain Bujold, and Lt. Okuda. Hello there.
Kotal said, with a bit of irony in his voice. How nice to meet you
here. Captain Bujold did not take this joke very well. Listen
Kotal. He said. We are only 3 hours away from publicly being
executed. I dont really feel like dying. I hope you have a plan,
because we dont. Kotal was a bit surprised. He had no idea his
Captain could be so
aggressive. Captain, Ive send the message
Okuda tried to send to starfleet. I hope that does the trick, and
that somebody will come and safe us. This time, it was Okudas turn
to speak. I hope that they are coming. She said. I have no
intention of spending my last few hours, imprisoned, by the man I
once loved! Easy Lieutenant. Bujold said. All we can do now, is
wait, and hope that Starfleet will safe us.
3 hours later, Starfleet still hadnt shown up. Now, there was almost
no chance of being rescued. The 3 officers had accepted their fates,
and were now on their way to the execution wall, as they heard
guards call it. When they arrived, with their hands still tied behind
their backs, they saw an entire crowd had gathered, to see them being
shot. They also saw armed guards, controlling the crowd. The 3
officers knew what was going on: the Andorians didnt want to watch,
but Artok had forced them. Now, all of Andoria, and all of the
Federation, was going to see how they were being executed.
As they stood against the wall, with the rifles pointed at them, and
the cameras recording everything, it was on this moment, when Artok
gave the order to fire, that a familiar blue light enveloped them. At
one moment they were on the execution site, but at the other, they
found themselves at a transporterpad, surrounded by Starfleet
officers. Welcome back. One of them said.
Meanwhile, everybody on Andoria, and in the Federation, had watched
the 3 Starfleet officers being beamed away. The Andorians now knew
the Federation was on their side, in their constant battle against
Artok. And when Starfleet troops began to beam down to the surface,
the Andorians, who werent loyal to Artok, began to fight together
with Starfleet, against Artoks forces. The battle was tough, and a
lot of people were killed. But in the end, Artok was captured, and
Andoria was handed back to the Andorians.
One month after Andoria was liberated, they joined the Federation
again. Bujold, Okuda and Kotal recieved the Pike medal, for valor.
They all continued to serve in Starfleet, even Kotal, who wasnt an
outsider anymore. He was a hero, in the eyes of his people. And many
years later, when Kotal retired from Starfleet, he went back to
Andoria, and became an old, but wise Ambassador, between Andoria and
the Federation, to make sure none of this would happen again.

The Alpha Centauri Mystery - Part 4 by Ben Versteegt
====================================================================
Summary: On Alpha Centauri, after the Dominion War, a Cardassian with
a phaser threatens to kill the Ferengi bartender Zaag, if he doesn't
help him. He wants Zaag to steal some samples. The next day,
Starfleet Ensign Sandra Burke has to examine these strange, unknown
samples. Zaag then asks Sandra to steal those samples for him, and
Sandra agrees, on one condition: when Zaag meets the Cardassian,
there will be a security team standing by to take the Cardassian into
custody.
And now the continuation:
"Let me get this straight..." Lieutenant Graves straightened his
uniform while speaking to Sandra. He probably thought it was funny.
"You want to take some precious samples to a Ferengi, so he can
deliver them to a Cardassian, who will then be caught by Starfleet
personnel?"
"Exactly."
The Lieutenant stared at Sandra with a look that said "You have to be
kidding."
"You're serious aren't you?" he finally said.
"Dead serious."
There was a long and awkward silence. The Lieutenant looked like he
was thinking hard and serious about this. He probably was. Sandra
could never tell with him. Finally, after what seemed like hours, he
looked Sandra straight in her eyes.
"Fine then. But I'm holding you personally responsible. If your plan
fails, I don't want Starfleet to blame me." He paused, and shook his
head. "Unlike some people in this room, I have career plans."
"Understood Sir." Sandra said, ignoring the Lieutenant's remark about
her career. "I'll have the security team standing by at the
designated time and place of the 'transfer' of the samples. And I
will pick up the samples tonight."
She turned around to leave, but Graves stopped her.
"Ensign."
Sandra turned to face her superiour officer. "Yes Sir?"
"If you loose those samples..."
"I won't, Sir."
"But if you do..." The Lieutenant spoke softly, almost threatening.
"I'll have your head. Understood?"
"Understood Sir."
"Good."
Sandra turned again to walk away, but got stopped again by the
Lieutenant. "Ensign?"
"Yes Sir?" Sandra sighed.
"Dismissed, Ensign."
Later that night, Sandra and the security team were hiding in an
adjacent room, while in the next room, Zaag was pacing around
nervously. The Ferengi had a very bad feeling about this. His life
was at stake here. What if the Cardassian entered the room and found
out about the Starfleet team hiding in the next room? He would most
surely kill Zaag and get away with the samples. The Ferengi didn't
care about the samples, but the risk to his own life was too great.
For a minute, he toyed with the idea of telling the Cardassian there
was a team hiding nearby. That way Zaag would have demonstrated his
loyalty, the Cardassian would go away, and Zaag's life would have
been saved. But there also was a chance that the Cardassian might
attack the security team. Sandra might get hurt. He didn't want that
to happen at all. Somehow, he felt that dying to protect Sandra
wasn't such a bad way to die. He liked Sandra very much. More than he
would like to admit, even to himself. Or to her.
He didn't have time to think any more, because he heard a sound that
made him freeze. The sound of a transporter filled the room. In front
of Zaag, someone appeared in a yellow light. Zaag recognized this
fellow as the Cardassian who had threatened him. If it was possible
for him to become more nervous than he already was, he would have
done so.
"Do you have the samples?" the Cardassian asked.
"Yes, yes, I have them right here." Zaag replied nervously. He
pointed to the box on the table, which contained the samples.
"Excellent. I knew I could count on you, Ferengi."
"Thank you, Mister..." Zaag paused for a moment. "I didn't get you
name, I'm afraid."
"And you won't get it, Ferengi." There was an angry tone is his
voice, almost threatening.
"Sure, if you don't want to give me your name, that's all right with
me!" Zaag shouted nervously. "I don't care. I just..."
He was stopped mid-sentence by a Cardassian phaser which the
Cardassian had pointed at, and pressed against, his head. It felt
uncomfortable to say the least. He moved behind Zaag, with his phaser
still against Zaag's temple (or the Ferengi equivalent of a temple),
and he picked up the box with samples.
The Cardassian moved even closer to Zaag,. His face was now only
centimeters away from the Ferengi's right ear.
"I know about the Starfleet security team in the next room." he
whispered softly.
A shock went through Zaag. He was certain he would die in the next
few minutes. His only chance was to do what Ferengi in distress do
best: grovel.
He opened his mouth to plead for his life, only to close it again
when the Cardassian pushed his phaser even harder against Zaag's
head.
"Don't..." the Cardassian said, a little too loudly. He looked to the
entrance to the next room, where he knew the security team was
hiding. "Don't say a word." He whispered to Zaag. "...or I'll blow
you head off..."
Zaag only nodded.
"I hope I never see you again, Ferengi." the Cardassian said, as he
touched his communication device on his wrist. "Farewell."
For a few moments, neither of them spoke.
"You're leaving?" Zaag finally managed to say.
The Cardassian was clearly surprised. "Why am I not on my ship?" he
asked to no-one in particular. "Why isn't my transporter working?"
"Transporter inhibitor." came a voice from across the room. In the
door-opening stood Sandra, pointing a phaser at the Cardassian. With
her were four security guards, all with phaser rifles. "We thought
you might want to escape by using your transporter, so we put up a
transporter inhibitor." she paused, while looking the Cardassian
straight into his eyes. "There's nowhere to run, you know. I suggest
you put down your weapon and the samples, and surrender yourself to
us."
The Cardassian tightened his grip on Zaag. He started to move
backwards, towards the outside, while dragging Zaag with him. "If you
think I will surrender to you..." he said in his soft and icy voice,
"...you Starfleet types are even more naive than I thought you were."
"This is a Federation planet." Sandra said. "Do you really think you
can escape? There are hundreds of Starfleet officers stationed here.
You'll never get off the planet!"
"I'll take my chances." the Cardassian said. "If you follow me, the
Ferengi dies, understood? Now lower your weapons!"
The security officers didn't seem to know what to do, as they looked
at Sandra for orders. She didn't know what to do either. She couldn't
just let the Cardassian escape with Zaag and the samples. But she
also couldn't try to stop the Cardassian. She didn't want to be
responsible for Zaag's death.
Sandra didn't have any previous experience with hostage situations
like this, or with any kind of hostage situation for that matter.
Inside, she felt she started to panic. She also knew this was a time
where she couldn't panic, no matter what, so she tried to control her
fear and anxiety. It didn't work very well.
She felt her heart beat go faster than ever, and tried her best not
to show to the Cardassian how afraid she was. "I'm warning you!" she
shouted. "I will fire!"
"Lower your weapons!" the Cardassian shouted back. Sandra could see
that he was getting nervous too. He held the phaser tightly against
Zaag's head, his finger ready to push the trigger. "Lower your
weapons!" he yelled again. "I mean it! I will kill the Ferengi!"
Instead of lowering her weapon, Sandra took aim. "If he dies..." she
said softly. "you'll be next."
"What are you doing?" hissed Zaag. "He'll shoot me!"
"No he won't." Sandra said calmly. Inside though, she was shaking.
"If he shoots you, we will shoot him. He can't afford to loose you."
"What the hell are you doing Sandra?" Zaag cried out in panic. "Put
down the phaser!"
Sandra made a smile appear on her face. She actually was terrified,
but she didn't let it show... she hoped.
"I'm calling his bluff..."
The nerves seemed to be getting to the Cardassian. Instead of at
Zaag, he pointed his phaser at Sandra, holding his other arm around
his Ferengi hostage. "You're right." he said. "I need this hostage."
he paused, while he aimed at Sandra. There was a creepy kind of spark
in his eyes. He seemed to enjoy this moment, when he was in control
of the situation. He was going to get away, and there was nothing
Starfleet could do about it. All they could do was watch how he would
walk away with the hostage and the samples.
The annoying Ferengi he would dispose of as soon as possible. He just
needed a hostage to get away. After he would have gotten to his
ship... one blast with his phaser to the Ferengi's stomach would
cause a slow and agonizing death... The Cardassian smiled at the
thought.
"So I need the Ferengi for hostage-purposes." he thought to himself,
as he smiled patronizingly at Sandra and her security team. "But that
doesn't mean I can't kill someone else..." He looked Sandra right
into the eyes. "...Starting with her."
"I will be going now." he said, still aiming his weapon at Sandra and
her team. "Don't try to stop me."
Sandra sighed almost unnoticeably. She knew they had failed to
protect the samples and to imprison the Cardassian. And what was even
worse, she had failed to protect Zaag.
As the Cardassian moved further backwards, she still kept her phaser
aimed at him. Too bad Zaag was in the way, or she would have fired.
But she didn't want to risk hitting the Ferengi.
Then suddenly, the Cardassian stopped.
"I would say 'see you again sometimes,' but... well..." the
Cardassian said, as he had his phaser pointing straight at Sandra.
"But since you will be dead and I will remain alive, I don't think I
will be seeing you after all..." As he moved his index finger
millimeter by millimeter closer to the trigger, he thought about all
his previous victims. He always enjoyed the moment before the kill
the most. The few seconds when he saw the fear in the eyes of his
victim, always seemed to last for hours. He enjoyed every moment of
it. Although somehow, this time wasn't as exhilarating as some of the
previous times. "Must be the 'last comment'-part..." he thought. His
last words to his victim were usually a smart one-liner, giving the
soon-to-be-dead-person a clue as to what was about to happen.
He shrugged hardly noticeably. He was a great killer, but coming up
with original one-liners was a bit more difficult.
The Cardassian did see fear in Sandra's eyes. And Sandra knew it. She
knew she was going to die. She knew the Cardassian would fire,
killing her, probably in the most painful way imaginable. And he
would get away with the samples and with Zaag. If only she had done
more to stop the Cardassian... but it was too late for that now.
She looked her killer straight into his eyes, determined to give him
a look that would haunt his the rest of his life. At least that way
she would get her revenge. The Cardassian didn't seem to care too
much about it, though. It only made him smile even more.
"Fine then." Sandra thought. "Then I will die..."
"Wait!" someone shouted.
It was Zaag. He couldn't just stand by - even if he was a hostage -
and allow Sandra to be shot. He cared too much for her to do nothing.
"Can't we negotiate a deal of some sort?" He tried to look at the
Cardassian. "If you let us live, I will give you... five strips of
gold-pressed latinum!"
The Cardassian looked annoyed. "You just spoiled a perfectly good
moment." he said. "Now shut up, and don't interrupt me again. These
are moments one needs to treasure, you know."
"Seven!" Zaag yelled. "No, eight strips of latinum!" There was no
response, only an unclear muttering from the Cardassian. "Ten?
Twenty? Or how about one whole bar of gold-pressed latinum? Come on,
even a Cardassian must have his price!"
The Cardassian was about to reply, when his communicator beeped.
Suddenly, the _expression on his face turned from annoyed to
terrified in an instant. "Dammit!" he shouted. Apparently, something
unexpected had come up.
Without a warning, he let go of Zaag and started running, leaving a
surprised Starfleet team behind and also an astounded but very
pleased Zaag.
"Stop him!" Sandra shouted, but then realized she herself had a
phaser in her hand. She aimed, and fired it. The beam hit the
Cardassian in the back. He dropped his phaser and, unconscious, fell
to the ground. He rolled over once or twice because of the momentum
he still had, and then stopped. The box with samples ended up near
his face, which was covered with dirt.
Sandra holstered her phaser and walked to Zaag, while the other
members of the team moved towards the unconscious Cardassian. "Are
you all right?" Sandra asked.
For a moment, Zaag said nothing. But the moment quickly passed, and
Zaag seemed to have gotten over the shock. "You could have killed
me!" he yelled.
"You're welcome..."
Zaag sighed. "Thanks Sandra. But I still say this was a bad plan. He
could have shot me!"
"But he didn't"
"No he didn't!" Zaag seemed rather upset. "Lucky for me. How did you
know he wasn't going to fire anyway?"
Sandra smiled. "I didn't."
She ignored Zaag's surprised face and walked towards the security
team.
"Nice shot Ma'am." One of them said. "But I wonder why he suddenly
decided to run away like that..."
"I don't know. I guess he just..."
She couldn't finish her sentence. An enormous explosion in the
background made them all cover their ears. When finally Sandra looked
up in the direction of the explosion, she realized what had happened,
although she couldn't believe it.
"Our base..." she said, gesturing in the direction where the outpost
had stood only a few seconds ago. Now there were only a few remains,
some fires and a lot of dust. Pillars of smoke filled the sky above
them.
"It's.... gone!"

Project Star Gate --- Chapter XII --- ' Dominion '
by Mark van der Laan
====================================================================
Introduction
Space, the final frontier. Or is it? In a remote corner of the Alpha
Quadrant, a new and unique project has been started. Here, in the
distant Bel System we find a new type of star base, one unlike ever
seen before. This star base, wielding the codename 'Maelstrom',
utilizes the sun's power to create a rift in space, a vortex much
alike a wormhole, for a brief period of time, allowing whatever
passes through it to travel to any part of the galaxy, or even to
distant galaxies. However when something goes wrong, the station and
its crew accidentally get transported to a distant galaxy. These
stories follow the adventures of its crew as they travel towards new
destinations, meeting new friends and encountering new foes, hoping
that their next teleportation will lead them home. These
are the adventures of the Star Gate.
Main Characters
David Rolans:
Commanding Officer of the Maelstrom. A young terran StarFleet
officer. Though still inexperienced at being in command, he is
anything but naive.
Captain Black:
Originally assigned to guide Commander Rolans to the Maelstrom, Black
turns out to be more than just an escort, always around to lend a
helping hand.
Jagh Ramen:
A trill with an almost impossible tranquillity; Jagh is assigned as
David's first officer and tries to perform that duty at his best
ability.
Argol Manck:
A tall Cardassian with a grumpy attitude; Why exactly he got assigned
to the Maelstorm is still a mystery, but he seems to do his job well
so nobody's really complaining. Argol was in charge of station
security, but had to stop doing that because he ascended into a
higher level of consciousness.
Anya Maras:
A bajoran woman who mans the science station; her knowledge seems
varied, and her social skills well developed, even though she can't
stand Manck, for obvious reasons...
Daniel Jackson:
A human in his thirties in charge of engineering. His skills are
average, but his ability to improvise more than makes up for it, and
he's one of the people who helped constructing the Central Reactor
and one of the few who understands it fully.
Doctor Ragg:
A Ferengi as cowardly as they come, yet Ragg's medical skills and
techniques rank among the finest in medical circles.
Tal Rehu:
Romulan spy responsible for the accident on the Maelstrom's first
mission, causing it to get lost in space; was imprisoned in the brig
but has managed to escape captivity recently after an uncontrolled
'teleport'.
Gary Samdar:
An alien from a planet of which the location name aren't entirely
clear yet; he looks surprisingly human and was tricked by Tal Rehu to
help take over the Maelstrom. He has the ability to use what he calls
magic.
Summary:
David Rolans, a young StarFleet officer, has recently been promoted
to command the star base that goes by the codename of "Maelstrom", a
starbase that is equipped with a unique and experimental generator
capable of opening a stable wormhole.
The freshly appointed commander and his new staff are faced with
several problems shortly after Rolans' arrival, but all of these turn
out to be childsplay when the Maelstrom's first mission goes horribly
out of hand... A Romulan intruder manages to sabotage the station,
causing an overload in the main reactor, resulting in the entire
station being transported to a new, unknown destination, in a
completely different galaxy.
Their unplanned jump has them wind up near a pre-warp M-class planet,
inhabited by a civilization roughly comparable to medieval earth. On
the same planet they also met a strange being from an advance
civilization, one that in appearance looks lot like The Devil.
After a short dialogue, two Extras getting disintegrated and the
crew's upsetting of an entire planet's destiny by blowing their god
to bits, the crew returns to the Maelstrom just in time to see the
devil-like creature's ship disappear completely...
With no way of getting home, the crew decides to take a risk - an
uncontrolled jump without knowing where they would appear, with the
possibility of materializing inside a planet or even a star.
While the first jump got them nearly colliding with an M-Class
planet, then dragged off into an unknown dimension -at which point
Argol Manck ascended into a superior being- and left with one extra
alien, Gary Samdar, the crew takes the bold risk of jumping again...

Project Star Gate --- Chapter XII --- ' Dominion '
Mark van der Laan
-------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a tense atmosphere in the command room of the starbase
Maelstrom. All stations were manned and all eyes were focused on the
main screen which showed the coldness of space which was empty except
for a few stars and a lonely planet in the distance.
"Main reactor at 98% of maximum efficiency," Daniel Jackson reported
through the station's intercom system, "All systems are fully
operational. Ready to proceed, commander."
The commander of the Maelstrom, David Rolans stared at the bald
figure of Captain Black. Black had accompanied the young officer to
the Maelstrom and had since been an unwilling passenger, dragged
along as they got lost in space, thanks to the sabotage of the
romulan spy Tal Rehu. Ever since, Black had proven to be a valuable
asset to the Maelstrom crew, offering advice when needed and even
when it wasn't needed. Right now, Black replied to his stare with a
nod. "go for it."
"Very well then, no time like the present," David decided, folding
his hands, "Power up the gateway sequence. And keep your fingers
crossed."
"Gateway sequence initiated," Anya reported, "Instant transmission in
three...two..."
Flash.
"...three," she continued, after the Maelstrom had successfully
continued jumping to another area of space.
"It seems your timing is a bit off," David commented, "What
happened?"
"Nothing," the Bajoran replied, "According to these readings we
shouldn't have teleported yet; it's as if the generator is suspended
in time and space somehow."
"But how ? And then why did we just shift..?"
"That would be my doing," the apple in the middle of the command room
replied.
Commander Rolans gazed at the piece of fruit, then at the viewing
screen. It was black, there was nothing out there; he recognized the
piece of fruit as one of the omnipotent beings that had visited the
Maelstrom not too long ago. Those beings had declared that they
considered his security officer, the Cardassian Argol Manck as a
great being among mortals and worthy of ascension; it was then that
Argol too ascended into a higher being and was never heard from
again. Until now.
For next to the apple, Argol Manck materialized out of nowhere, once
again in his mortal form, looking utterly cranky.
"What... is the meaning of this..?" David finally uttered.
"We chose Argol Manck to became one of us because we saw in him great
potential and wisdom," the apple explained, then continued at sneery
voice: "It would seem even omnipotent beings make mistakes
sometimes."
And then the apple and the void disappeared, taking the space station
back to where it was before their interruption: one second before
instant transmission.
A blinding flash filled the command room next, as the station was
transported across the universe towards a new destination. The light
fadded and a starry sky was visible once again; apparantly, the
Maelstrom had not materialized inside a star or planet; they had been
fortunate.
"Status report!" David demanded immediately.
"All systems still functioning," Anya reported, "Scanners are
scanning to determine our location if possible; incoming ships on
long range sensor. Oh dear..."
"What is it? What's wrong?"
"Those incoming ships... They're Dominion vessels, sir! We're right
in the middle of the gamma quadrant!"
That anouncement was enough to get everybody alert again. "How many?"
David finally asked.
"I'm counting four...no five ships; the first will reach us in less
than five minutes."
"Weapons?"
"Already charging," the now unascended Argol Manck said while he took
his station as if nothing had happened at all, "Just say the word and
they're space dust."
"The word," Ragg squeaked. Argol fired a burst of torpedoes. Neither
of them hit anything, given their targets were far out of range.
It didn't take long for the Jem'Hadar on the Dominion ships to
overtake the Maelstrom and imprison its crew. Following the quick
boarding, a Vorta beamed on board, inspecting its new prize. And
after having done so, he had Commander Rolans sent to the now empty
command room so he could inspect his new prize's CO. For a while
neither human nor Vorta spoke a single word, simply staring at each
other, trying to guess each other's thoughts. Finally, David was the
one to
break the silence: "You won't succeed, you know."
The Vorta started ranting at that point, but ignored his words: "I am
the Vorta Elbion XXI. I've overseen the conquest of dozens of worlds,
I've devestated entire armadas of starships, I was there during the
dominion war. Your little space station is nothing to me."
"Elbion XXI?" David replied, ignoring the Vorta's boasts completely
as well, "That's quite the amount of incarnations."
Elbion snorted. "I am proud to have given my life for the Founders so
many times!"
"There probably isn't an insurance company in the universe that would
accept a Vorta client."
"Perhaps, but the Founders offer a good dental care plan," Elbion
retorted.
The lights flickered for a moment and then the power went out
completely, leaving the two of them in the dark for a few short
moments until the backup generators kicked in. "What in blazes was
that?" Elbion demanded.
"That would be our Romulan spy, Tal Rehu, escaping from the brig, and
attempting to either take over this station or destroy it."
And then the lights went out completely.

Why the crew of the USS Voyager could change the timeline
by Guido Dorssers
====================================================================
Being a vivid science fiction fan, and a StarTrek fan in general, I
think most of us, if not all, are quite well known with time
travelling. And aren't all those cause and causality problems making
our heads start hurting when we try to think about the why's and
how's and the flaws in there? For if they changed the history, then
we did they need to go back in time to change it? Since then in the
future the reason to go back would be gone.
Well, in each case, our the PI's we hired have now been able to tell
us why the crew of the USS Voyager was able to change the timeline in
Future's End. You know, the episode in which they visited San
Fransisco and which gave the Doctor his ability to leave Sickbay. I
assume he got quite sick of being in there all the time.
But okay, let's get back on track. We all know that Henry Starling
was using a 29th century Federation starship to built up his
softwarecompany called Chronowerx Corporation. We also know that in
the end he did not succeed in his plan to get even more advanced
material by doing some time travel himself in the timeship he had
found. It blew up while he was on board.
But why was this possible? Why could the USS Voyager blow him up? For
when they blew him up then the disaster Captain Braxton was talking
about would not have happened. And hence the USS Voyager would not
have been brought into the year 1996. And if they had not been
brought there, well, they could not stop Starling, so the disaster
would happen and they would.... well, I am sure you
can follow my track of thought here and maek sure that solely you and
only you yourself are responsible for that headache that you feel
upcoming.
So we have a nice cause and causilatiy paradox here, right? For if it
did not happen then they would not have been in 1996, but if they
would have not been there it would have happened. So logic dictates
there must have been some external influence. And this is where we
needed our PI's.
And after it took them quite some time to do their work because
unfortunately they were not as good as Dixon Hill, but... it's the
result that counts. So, they found out that Henry Starling was a
pseudonym of James T. Rothwell, a math teacher at a highschool
attended by a certain Sabrina. And yes, that's the same Sabrina as in
"Sabrina, the teenage witch".
So this Mr. Rothwell was giving math at this class, but just like we
got to know him in Future's End, he wasn't exactly a happy fellow.
When Sabrina asked a question of him and admitted that she didn't
understand one of the things he was teaching about, he decided to
spring a test on the entire class and told them to blame Sabrina for
it. Both her aunts try to talk sense into Mr. Rothwell, but the only
thing they manage is to get angry at this Mr. Rothwell too. So they
end up with sueing him.
Well, what do you think that happened?
Okay, you don't know?
Let's quote literally then:
----
Judge Samuels: Would the defendant like to make a closing statement?
Mr. Rothwell: Yes I would. Your honour, I'm not a baby-sitter. I'm
paid to teachmath and that is what I do. Yes I could be more
sensitive but let's face it. The world is full of people like me.
People who chose favourites. People who don't accept excuses. People
who are 'Unfair' Well life is unfair and I'm just helping my students
to get used to that.
Judge Samuels: Mr. Rothwell, just one last question. Do you intend to
teach high school for the rest of your life?
Mr. Rothwell: Are you kidding? I'm just doing this until I can start
up my own software company.
Judge Samuels: Thank you. Well I will return with my decision and a
fresh cup of cocoa.
Judge Samuels returns with his cup of cocoa.
Judge Samuels: I've reached my decision.
Mr. Rothwell stands.
Judge Samuels (continued): With respect to existential code violation
this court finds you not guilty due to insufficient evidence.
Mr. Rothwell smiles.
Judge Samuels (continued): With respect to the vehicular code
violation the court finds you guilty as charged.
Mr. Rothwell: Oh nuts!
Judge Samuels (continued): But we'll wave the usual forty dollars
fine and instead sentence you to a lifetime of teaching high school
algebra.
Mr. Rothwell: What! That's not fair!
----
We now know what happened, and yep, Mr. Rothwell AKA Henry Starling
will not be setting up his Chronowerx Corporation since he has now
been sentenced to teaching math forever. So the conclusion of our
PI's is that in this case the crew of the USS Voyager was able to
change the timeline thanks to the external magical influence of
Sabrina and her aunts.
We hope you enjoined this timeline case and perhaps our PI's may be
able to crack some more in the future.

Da Trivia - Edition Three by Guido Dorssers
====================================================================
The Trivia of April had only one set of answers coming in. I however
don't know why, I am assuming the combination of the questions and
the time available to send me the answers made it too hard. So I'm
going to give it another try, but from now on the trivia will most
likely appear quarterly. That is, if I get some people to
participate. If nobody is participating the trivia will dissappear
from the Newspaper. So it's your choice folks! To participate or not
to participate, that's the question!
Well, let's first start with the questions and answers of last
trivia:
