PR Status Report January 2004 by Rob Versteegt
--------------------------------------------------------------------

There weren't a lot of signups this month: only 12 of them.

How did they find our game?

4 through friends
2 looked at internetsites (Pbem.com, etc)
2 found us at startrek.pagina.nl
1 saw us at Startrek Fleet command
1 Googled us
1 was just 'webserving'
1 saw an E-mail, concerning us.

What does this say about the PR department:
I'm starting to think it doesn't matter how many ad's we send... most
people (this month) have found us through friends. But we will
continue placing ad's... at pbem.com, pbem-portal.com, and also at
startrek.com. This month, there haven't been any people from
startrek.com, because their messageboards were offline. They are
operational again, and the first ad's have already been send. ;-)
Also, I'm planning on (finally) go to usenet, and place some ad's
there...

Stardate 2391.04.12

Our mission with the Solstice on Tollaxana ended this month. The crew
has returned to the station where a new mission has started:

CO Janssens's double from a parallel universe has returned and warned
him that the Federation from that other universe is going to steal
the Epimetheus. Can the Pandora crew trust this 'Other' Janssens?

(] #4 - Remnants of the past [)

Stardate 2391.03.06 and 2391.03.12
----------------------------------

Luckily, Ms. Truesdale was able to bring Mr. Robertson back to
sickbay. Doctor Vok called Mr. Murdock, who was going to talk to
Robertson, in private. This was done because both Vok and Truesdale
thought this could restore some of Robertson's memory.

While those 2 were talking to each other, Truesdale, Vok, Tingle and
Underhill decided to try and learn everything they could about Elkor.
It was still unclear for them, who this Elkor was, and why only the
Captain could see him. The answer was given to them by Ja'al, who had
talked to the Tollaxan Li-En. Ja'al told the 2 Doctors, the Head
nurse and the XGO that Elkor was actually a computer program, which
was transmitted on the same frequency as the Captain's brain
frequency. That's why only the captain could see him. This also meant
that if either the Tollaxans stopped transmitting on that frequency,
or if the Captain would be far enough away from the planet, this
Elkor wouldn't be bothering him anymore.

Captain Janssens had talked to starfleet about the situation the
Tollaxans were in now. He knew the Solstice wasn't able to carry
10.000 or more passengers... or even making sure they are all in good
health. So Starfleet agreed to send ships, to assist the Solstice,
and the Tollaxans.

About a week later, most of the Tollaxans were now out of stasis,
despite the Bauglirium, a rare mineral, which absorbed most of the
solar energy. The starfleet ships had helped the Tollaxans with their
awakening, and with their adjustment to their planet...

The Solstice had now left Tollaxana. Their work was done... After
saying farewell, the Solstice went to warp, back to Pandora
station...

(] #5 - Alternate Enemy [)

Stardate 2391.04.12
-------------------

After the last mission was completed, the Solstice had returned to
Pandora Station. A few weeks later, the crew is gathered, and
promotions are given: CEO Lieutenant Commander Charles Holmes is now
promoted to Commander, and First Officer of Pandora Station. ACSO
Ensign Jeff Jalando is promoted to Lieutenant, Chief Science Officer
and Second Officer of Pandora Station, and ACMO Jessica Truesdale is
promoted to Chief Medical Officer.

While some of the crew are just getting used to their new positions,
and the rest of the crew is trying to get used to the others in the
new positions, a rift suddenly opened, and a Klingon Bird of Prey
exited it. The people on the ship contacted Pandora... but when the
channel was opened, the one commanding this ship was... Jim Janssens!
Captain Janssens, (not the one on the Bird of Prey) made sure every
person on board that ship was transported to Pandora's sickbay.
Captain Janssens went to visit The Other Janssens... and knew
immediately that it was the same Other Jim that he had met before...
in an alternate universe, when Captain Janssens was 2O/CSO on the
Calhoun...

Mr. Jalando and Mr. Ren'dell were now trying to find out everything
they could about this rift, while the two stellar cartographists,
Shogo and Simpson, were trying to find a way to get through the rift
to the other universe. They succeeded, and relayed the data to
Jalando, who found out the Captain already knew of a way.

The Captain was in sickbay... talking to the Other Janssens... This
"Jim Janssens" of the alternate universe, warned the Captain
Janssens, that the Federation of the alternate universe is trying to
steal the Epimetheus. They have tried to do that some time ago... but
then agents, under the command of the alternate Janssens, stopped
them.

It is now up to Captain Janssens and the crew of Pandora station to
stop the Other Federation from proceeding with their plans...

STATUS REPORT: USS Odyssey January 2004 by Dennis Church
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Stardate 2391.03.20

The Odyssey has received its new assignment-they are to go to the
world of Pabloias Prime to negotiate the end to a civil war. The
Paloyans, a recently new Federation member, is looking to mine a
relatively new metal called Gyranzite-a metal with some intriguing
properties that Starfleet hopes to take advantage of, but they are
being held back by a rebel faction, who took the first negotiating
team that was sent by the Federation prisoner.

Captain Bennek beamed down to the planet with Counsellor
Sellser-Talchan and Lieutenant Byrne, in an attempt to negotiate an
end to this dispute and to negotiate the release of the Federation
prisoners. Unfortunately, upon their beaming down they were captured
as well-supposedly by the rebel movement, aiming to gain a voice for
their cause.

It is up to the remaining crew of the Odyssey to end this crisis and
ensure the safe return of all the prisoners, while securing Gyranzite
mining rights for the Federation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

2391.03.18

The murder investigation was well on the way on the Atlantis and soon
the intruder had been found. Together with the STC and a few security
crewman, CO Essar apprehended the Draysian intruder. Unfortunately
the chance of interrogation was not present, the Draysian bit through
a suicide cap and was dead within the second.

But some other strange things were happening as well. The diplomatic
away team on the surface was now cut off from the Atlantis by a
forcefield and signals were picked up, indicating a cloaked fleet
near the second moon of Draysius Prime. The Captain quickly called a
meeting to investigate the possibilities. Soon the decision was made
to prepare a shuttlecraft for implementing the scatter grid and using
the shuttle as a magnifying glass for the transporter.

 Stardate: 2391.03.15
----------------------

While patrolling the Romulan Neutral Zone, the USS Valkyrie
discovered a Borg Icosahedron vessel. Clearly damaged, and apparently
lacking a cohesive collective, several independent drones of various
races sent out distress signals. When the Valkyrie caught up to the
vessel near an uninhabited moon, a Romulan science vessel soon
decloaked, and began attacking the icosahedron. The Valkyrie was not
quick enough in it's attempt to end the battle. In a final attempt to
destroy their enemy, the Romulan vessel rammed the icosahedron. The
two vessels, locked together from the collision, began to plummet
towards the surface of the moon. As the icosahedron entered the
atmosphere, the Valkyrie received a transmission from Ender Durron,
the ship's former Chief of Security, who had been assimilated two
months earlier.

The Borg and Romulan vessels crashed on an uninhabited M-Class
planet. Their surviving crew are still locked in battle. The Valkyrie
has sent an away team to the crashed vessels to prevent the situation
from escalating, and render aid. So far, the only life form they've

 Stardate: 2391.03.06

On the planet Tollaxana, the away team, consisting of Captain
Janssens, Commander Essar, Ensigns Ja'al, Jalando, Murdock and
Russet, and some security crewmen, went down the cave, using the
Tollaxan's elevator. After a ride of about 10 minutes, the party
arrived and found some 1500 stasis pods. All filled with Tollaxans.
The team decided that they wouldn't open those pods, until they knew
exactly how, and why these Tollaxans were here in stasis. But not all
went as planned. Suddenly, the first stasis pod in the row started to
open... revealing an elder Tollaxan. Captain Janssens saw that this
Tollaxan was having trouble breathing. He contacted the Solstice, and
let the Tollaxan being beamed to sickbay. The Captain too beamed back
to the Solstice to see how the Tollaxan was doing and maybe get some
information.

After the Captain had beamed away, the rest of the away team went on,
to search for answers in the cave. But all they found was more
mysteries. The 2 science officers found a few murals, displaying an
alien race. One of those murals seemed to be very important. It also
seemed to be slandered because it had some sort of paint all over it.

The elderly Tollaxan was called Zertok Li-En. He told the Captain
that there were about 10.000 Tollaxans, still in stasis, back on the
planet. Luckily, they wouldn't need any medical help, when they would
awaken.

Apparently, the Tollaxans had encountered an alien race, the
Naimlessians, who at first, acted friendly: sharing technologies,
etc.

But when their true intentions were made clear, the Tollaxans were
powerless to stop them. The Naimlessians wanted a very valuable
mineral from Tollaxana, so they started a war... When that war was
finally over, the Naimlessians retreated, and poisoned the Tollaxan's
atmosphere... forcing the Tollaxans to go into stasis.

Commander Essar told Captain Janssens that he would leave soon: his
new ship, the USS Atlantis, was waiting for him. Knowing that he
would loose his First Officer sooner then was planned, Captain
Janssens told Essar he could take the transwarpshuttle, so that the
Atlantis wouldn't depart without it's captain...

The Solstice will stay for another week, before more Starfleet
vessels will arrive. We will then be returning to Pandora Station.

The last place the crew of the Atlantis would want to be, is the

Ambassador Von Klinkerhoffen, her attaché Demetrius and Commander

the scene rapidly and shortly after informed the CO, who in his turn
called the CEO to the spot. Now the trio stand amidst a difficult
situation, with the Draysian government and the hostile stowaway on
one side and the tired, confused crew of the USS Atlantis on the
other side. The investigation is now well on the way, lead by the
STC, and the CEO is checking the sections for probable sabotage.

Little do they know of the threat lurking behind the second moon of

STATUS REPORT: USS Odyssey February 2004 by Dennis Church
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Stardate 2391.03.20

With the situation on Pabloias Prime becoming increasingly urgent,
Starfleet Command orders the Odyssey to continue negotiations while
not exacerbating the tension on the planet by sending down a rescue
mission. Commander Denebris complies to a point; he sends a
“reconnaissance team” in a shuttle to scan the planet’s surface to
attempt to narrow down the Captain’s whereabouts (Lietuenant Helfrump
and Ensigns O’Dain and Nerell) while also dropping of an away team
that is to find the rebels and make contact with them (Lietuenants
Velden and Travian, and Ensign Lett). The Pabloyan prisoner who was
brought back in the attempt to beam back the Captain is not
forthcoming with any helpful information. Lieutenant Helfrump has
also been injured, so the “reconnaissance” mission is struggling.

Meanwhile, Captain Bennek, Counsellor Sellser, and Lieutenant Byrne
are taken to a prison, where Sellser finds out that the people that
captured them are not, in fact, the rebels. This point is driven
home and a rebel attack force raids the prison, and breaks out the
away team. The Rebel Master Birto is relatively friendly to the
Starfleet captives, but the rebels’ resources are limited (they
cannot make contact with the Odyssey) and time is running out.

Negotiators from both sides are sent to the Odyssey to continue
attempts to reach a settlement on the mining project; the meeting had
not gone very well when an intruder alert sounds on the Odyssey; the
Pabloyan prisoner is attempting an escape. The negotiations are on
hold until the prisoner is caught again.

Unbeknownst on the planet below, the first Starfleet diplomatic team
remain in captivity to the Pabloyan government...what do they have to
hide?

This month, there have been more signups then before, which is a good
thing, but there have also been more 'useless' signups (Signups with
'classified' in them, for example...), which of course, is a bad
thing.

The ad I've placed at topwebgames.com is a success. Quite a lot of
signups (and most useless signups, unfortunately) found us at this
place.

Where people found us, and how many people found us there.
4 signups: Topwebgames.com
1 signup: Pbem.com
1 signup: Through a friend
2 signups: Google
6 signups: Other
2 signups: My mail to ex-members

Guido has been so kind to provide me with a list of e-mailadresses so
that I could mail those ex-members (not to spam them of course), to
ask if they would like to come back, or if we could delete their
account, if they wouldn't come back. I've had some interesting
replies. Most of the people who have answered my mail, said that they
would like to come back one day... but they don't have the time yet.

Also, I've begun advertising at Usenet. So far, no success... ;-)

All things considered, I thought this was a successful month for
PR... Also the busiest month, since I've become chief of PR. (not
only advertising, but also sending mails to ex-members, and answering
their mails.. ;-) )

Also, on a sad note, Martin Miller has resigned his PR-assistant job.
Thanks for the help Martin. ;-)

STATUS REPORT: Atlantis, February 2004 by David Susman
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Stardate: 2391.03.23

The crew of the Atlantis were getting on-edge as the negotiations on
Draysiasus Prime reached a stalemate. The Diplomatic team,
consisting of Ambassador von Klinkerhoffen, Attache Demetrius and
Commander Gerard found themselves de facto prisoners of the
Draysians. The trio tried to find their way out of the compound and
we stopped at every turn, their only hope lay with the Atlantis.

In orbit, the crew were dealing with their own problems. The
Draysians had erected a forcefield over the Diplomatic Compound,
preventing rescue of the Diplomatic Team. A runabout with LT
Commander Ellie Charlile, LT Jomorr and Ensign Dory launched with the
intent of implementing a scattergrid to enable the Atlantis to
transport the hostages to safety. As the runabout was launched, the
Draysian fleet launched their attack on the Atlantis.

As Captain Essar responded to the attack, LT Torn and the EEH Holly
discovered that the matter injectors had been sabotaged. With the
help of an Engineering Cadet the team began the dangerous task of
swapping the matter injectors as the ship was battered by the
Draysian assault. The Atlantis did its best to protect the runabout
from direct attack by theDraysians by flying between the smaller
vessel and the attacking ships. The crew managed to enable the
scattergrid and transport the diplomatic team from the planet and
then to save the crew of the runabout before it took a final, flaming
dive towards the planet surface.

The Atlantis then made a strategic withdrawl from Draysian space and
towards their rendezvous with the new Gamma Flyer.

Pandora Station Status Report February 2004
by Bram Peeters and Rob Versteegt
--------------------------------------------------------------------
(] Current Situation [)

Stardate 2391.04.12

CO Janssens's double from a parallel universe has returned and warned
him that the Federation from that other universe is going to steal
the Epimetheus. Not much later another ship from the parallel
universe arrived, a Federation vessel this time. The captain of this
ship claims that they have just come to arrest 'The Other' Janssens
and his crew for criminal activities in their own universe.

(] Mission Summary, by Rob Versteegt [)

The crew of Pandora was now busy scanning the place where the rift
had been, just a few moments ago. This rift was probably a passageway
to an alternate universe, because a ship with an alternate crew, and
an alternate Jim Janssens, had come out before.

However, Dr. Vok had heard that some of the alternate crew, who were
confined to sickbay, were planning on taking over a ship. Although it
wasn't known what ship would be taken over, the information the other
Janssens had given the Pandora Captain, made it clear that the
federation from the other universe wanted to steal the Epimetheus. So
Commander Holmes ordered modifications to be made on Virt, so that he
could guard the Epimetheus, and sound alarms, if anything would go
wrong.

But soon, this was the least of their problems. Again, a rift opened,
and another ship came out. This ship was a starfleet ship from the
alternate universe, called "USS Interceptor". This ship was commanded
by Captain Bertorelli, who hailed Pandora. He asked commander Holmes
to return the 'criminals' from their universe. Holmes didn't agree to
that, so the Interceptor beamed both Janssens to their brig, through
Pandora's shields. Bertorelli told Holmes that they would release the
Janssens from our universe, when they had determined which Janssens
was which.

Holmes however, didn't agree with this, and ordered Lt. Jalando to
find a solution. His idea was to modify a tractorbeam, to emit the
opposite frequency of the other ship's shields. This would lower
their shields for a moment, in which a transporterroom could
transport both Janssens back... After a little while, these
modifications were complete, and the plan was put into action. It
worked, both Janssens were transported back. To prevent this from
happening again, EO B. Janssens made sure the shields would change
frequency every second. This would prevent beam-outs. Captain
Janssens then ordered the alternate Janssens to be taken back to
sickbay again...

But at the same moment, in a cargobay on Pandora, the First Officer
of the alternate ship, Commander von Klinkerhoffen, appeared. She had
also transported to Pandora... After a few minutes of crawling, she
arrived in sickbay. There, Dr. Vok, who had been send away from a
surgery by Dr. Truesdale, because his behaviour left much to be
desired, and Mr. Underhill, saw how the FO from the alternate
universe asked the alternate Janssens if she could join the Maquis...

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Stardate: Stardate 2391.03.15

On investigating the crash site, the crew was met with hostility from
both sides. But in true starfleet fashion, that didn't stop them from
keeping the transporter chief busy and abducting anything that moved.
Or, as they call it, rescuing. Resulting in a sizeable boarding party
consisting of two drones, a Romulan chef, and a further three Romulan
survivors. One of which being a sub-commander who could very likely
shed some light on the whole situation, if he were willing. Elsewhere
on board, Nasiva, the first drone to beam up has escaped from sickbay
and run amuck through the ship. Eventually being subdued by the
captain and her time-travelling science officer, in full view of the
visiting Tyksonian Ambassador. It's anyone's guess how long the
peaceful interlude witll last.

USS CALHOUN / DELTA ONE STATUS REPORT February 2004 by Adrian Rodd
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Stardate 2391.03.29

An alien visitor materialising out of thin air calls upon the Calhoun
crew to arbitrate a very special dispute. Upon accepting, the senior
officers are whisked away to a secluded room on a cloaked planet,
where they meet a Malon Borg drone whose mind is alternating between
the Collective and individuality. The crew agree to split into three
groups: one to argue in favour of the drone being freed from the
Borg, one to argue in favour of his being returned to the Collective,
and one to listen to both sides. . . then decide.

During a recess, while the engineers examine a malfunctioning system
in the drone, the crew return to Delta One, in time to grant
sanctuary to a Kazon woman fleeing a battlecruiser. The cruiser's
Maje claims she is a criminal and a bounty hunter, and refuses to
break off pursuit. Lieutenant-Commander Callahan pilots the Calhoun
into position between the two Kazon ships, then retaliates as the
cruiser fires. Incredibly, the battle ship explodes. . .

The Alpha Centauri Mystery - Part 9 - "The Loss" by Ben Versteegt
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary:

It seems as if everybody in the Alpha quadrant is after some
mysterious samples, which emit radiation that, so it seems, happens
to be an incredible source of power. Ensign Sandra Burke, who carried
the samples, beamed over to the USS Aquinas after her base in the
Alpha Centauri system was attacked and destroyed. The Aquinas had to
flee from a Prometheus class Starfleet vessel, who was firing at her
to obtain the samples. Finally, in a desperate attempt to slow down
their enemy, and when the Aquinas was forced to drop out of warp,
Captain Ayer ordered Chief Engineer Zjavick to eject the warp core
and detonate it.

The warp core detonated, resulting in an explosion that tore the ship
apart. Now, the Engineering section and the saucer section are
separated from each other, and the ship is in ruins. Not only is the
damage irreparable and the death toll immense, but Sandra has also
disappeared... she has been transported to the Prometheus class ship.

And now the continuation...

Sandra fell down on the cold, hard floor. The person who had tossed
her into the room snorted briefly at the Ensign's lack of resistance.
After being beamed away from the Aquinas onto the Prometheus class,
she had been given some sort of drug. She felt weak. Weaker than ever
before. She vaguely remembered the container with samples being taken
away from her. She had clamped onto it, protecting it with a fury
which had reminded her captors of a mother protecting her young.

Finally, she had been drugged. Unable to stop whatever her captors
were going to do with her, she had been dragged to this room. She had
no idea where she was. The world was spinning around her. She
couldn't get up, and when she tried to put her hands on the floor and
use her arms to rest on, she lost her balance and hit the floor
again. After several failed attempts to get up, she just stayed down,
laying on the floor. But even the floor was unstable. She saw it
spinning around her, and had the distinct feeling that the floor was
tilting to one side of the room. She tried to tell herself that it
was all an illusion, just an effect from the drug she had been given,
but her body wouldn't listen. She rolled over the floor
automatically, producing only a slight squeak in protest. It looked
pathetic and she knew it, but she couldn't help it.

Finally, she managed to lean on her elbow and look up. Her hair hung
in front of her face, but she saw enough to be blinded by a bright
light which was directed at her. She could make out a silhouette of a
man sitting behind a desk, but that was all she saw. The man, the
light and the desk all seemed to be spinning, along with the rest of
the world. When she finally tried to speak, her words came out
slowly, unclear. Her voice was soft, barely a whisper.

"Who... who are..." She blinked at the bright light, as the room spun
even faster around her.

The man in the shadows ignored her question. "Damage report?" Sandra
heard the mysterious figure say.

The man who had thrown Sandra into the room started to speak. He
spoke in a dark voice, in words Sandra couldn't understand. She was
pretty sure the words he uttered were English, but she was too dazed
to understand everything that was said. She strained to listen, and
could make out a few words. There was talk of a maximum speed of warp
2, severe casualties and damage to weapons systems.

The memories of the Aquinas, the shockwave, Zaag and Uncle Pete came
back to Sandra. "Aq... Aquinas..." she muttered. She looked into the
light, to where the shadowed man was sitting. She was begging him to
tell her whether or not her ship had survived. "Please..." She
reached out with her free arm to the light, but it made her loose her
balance. She fell to the ground again.

The man answered in a clear, harsh voice. There was a hint of
pleasure and sarcasm, as he delivered the finishing blow; "The
Aquinas has been destroyed. There are no survivors."

The sentence filled Sandra's head. It began to spin, just as the room
did, through her head. She heard it over and over again. "...no
survivors." Sandra wanted to scream out, cry, tear this place down in
furious anger, but she couldn't. She had no control over her weak
body. She didn't even have the strength to move her legs. Instead of
tearing down the room, she just lay there, her face against the
floor. Tears flowed uncontrollably along her cheeks, onto the ground.
She didn't care. She let her tears flow freely.

She didn't care about the samples anymore. They were suddenly not
important at all. Nor did she care about the fact that she was laying
on the floor, looked at by two unknown men. She kept thinking about
her friends. "Uncle Pete," she mouthed. "Zaag..." with the mention of
these two names, the flow of tears intensified. She couldn't control
herself anymore, even if she wanted to. They were gone now, the
Captain and the little Ferengi. Gone.

To Sandra, it didn't matter anymore what would become of her. The
Aquinas had been destroyed with all hands. Through her closed eyes,
she saw Ayer, sitting firmly in the Captain's Chair, surrounded by
dead crewmen and explosions. She knew he had stayed in his chair
until the very end. The Bridge would explode in a mighty burst of
fire, but Ayer would make sure he stayed seated. He would go down,
leading the ship into her unavoidable doom. No matter what, he would
have made sure he stayed in command. In the Captain's Chair. Where he
belonged.

And Zaag... Perhaps the Ferengi had finally shown bravery in battle.
Perhaps he had taken over the helm station when Sandra was abducted.
Perhaps he had cried for his mother at the end. Or maybe he was
killed early in the battle. But all these possibilities didn't change
the fact that he was dead. So was Uncle Pete. Sandra felt she was
drowning in her tears... She would never see either of her friends
again.

"Oh stop crying, you're making the floor all wet," the unknown man
behind the desk said, sounding annoyed. "Now, if you decide to
co-operate with us, and tell us everything we want to know, you won't
be hurt." he paused to let this sink in. Sandra barely heard it, and
understood it even less. The drugs were still having effect. "From
where did you get these samples?"

Sandra looked up with a lot of effort. Her eyes were wet, and she
could barely see. The combined influence of the drugs and the
terrible news about the loss of the Aquinas had brought her to the
brink of unconsciousness. She was treading a fine line between
sleeping and waking. She didn't know in which world she now belonged.

Still, the message had come through, albeit distorted in a fuzzy,
blurry kind of way. As she struggled to comprehend what exactly it
was that this man was asking her, she looked directly at him.
Although she had trouble keeping her eyes open, she wanted him to
know that she was still here, and that she wouldn't give up. With a
shock, she came to realise that there had to be someone to tell the
story. Someone had to survive, and now that the rest of the crew of
the Aquinas was gone, she had to be the one to get out of this mess
alive. She would fight the drugs, fight her fatigue and fight the
pain of her loss. But most of all, she would fight her captors.

"What do...?" she hissed, as she finally understood the question she
had been asked. Her voice was still soft. and she didn't know for
sure if what she said was understandable, but she didn't care. She
tripped over her own words a few times, and after speaking a few
sentences of half English, half gibberish, she managed to get her
sentence out with force. "What do you mean?"

She was infuriated. Why couldn't these people leave her alone? She
had lost her best friends in the blink of an eye. Couldn't they just
leave her alone and let her grieve?

Apparently, they could not. "You know exactly what I mean!" the man
shouted and slammed his hands on his desk. The silhouette rose from
his chair. "I'll ask you once more... where did you find these
samples?"

"Go to hell." Sandra spit out.

"Why isn't the truth-serum working?" the shadowy figure shouted to
the man who was still standing in the dooropening.

"We had to sedate her," came the brisk reply of the other man, who
was clearly the shadow's subordinate. "She was becoming too furious
for her sake... and for ours," he added. "It's interfering with the
truth-serum. I suspect that it will work..." he gulped, "eventually."

"I don't have time for that!" thundered the shadow. "They're on our
tail! Don't you know that?" Sandra couldn't see much of what was
going on around her, but she did notice that the shadowy humanoid had
moved from his desk towards Sandra. He knelt down beside her. Now
that he was in the light, Sandra strained to see his captor's face.

He was human. His face was grim, and scarred from battle. Sandra
could see, even in her semi-conscious state, that this was a man of
war. A man who got what he wanted through bloodshed. He wore some
kind of Starfleet uniform, but instead of the normal grey and black,
the uniform was entirely black. Concentrating, Sandra saw that he had
a red collar, decorated by four pips. "A Captain..." she said softly.

He didn't respond. He just grabbed her by the shoulders and lifted
her up. "Tell me what I need to know!" he yelled, as he shook Sandra
violently. This was too much for Sandra. She was too weak to stand,
the world was spinning around her and this violent shaking wasn't
helping. Her eyes rolled backwards. Sleeping seemed like a good idea.

"Don't you dare pass out on me, damnit!" the Captain shouted. With
great force, he punched his fist into her face. A different kind of
pain made itself known to the poor Ensign. She fell on the ground, as
blood trickled from her nose onto the floor. "Great, now I have to
get a crew in here to clean this mess!" the furious voice of the
Captain sounded through her head. It was the last thing she heard
before she passed out.

In the Line of Duty by Rob Versteegt
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 1: The Murder

This was it... there was no turning back. Esther looked at the
frightened... and helpless starfleet officer. "Please..." he said.
"Don't hurt me..." But it was too late. Esther had chosen this
path... She picked up the phaser.. and shot the man in his middle...
the man shouted out... just for a brief second, and then it stopped.
The man fell down to the floor... dead.

The next day, starbase 375 was as busy as ever... at every deck,
except deck 34. There, only starfleet security, and high ranking
officer were allowed... It was difficult to keep a secret... even on
a starbase this size. And soon, everybody knew: Someone has murdered
Cal Dooran.

"Isn't it terrible?" A woman shopkeeper cried out. "I mean... I
didn't even know the man... but a murder... on this starbase? I tell
you, I'm not going to bed, without doublechecking if my doors have
been locked!"

"I don't know him either..." a customer said. "But you're right...
there's a murderer loose on this station. Think of it... no ship had
given the permission to dock... and I've heard some officers say no
shuttles have been stolen, and no-one has transported away!"

"Now what do we do? If this murderer is still on the station... noone
will be safe! Anyone of us could be the next victim!"

The shopkeeper, who's name was Ayla Emor, was starting to get more
worried... and more paranoid then she usually was. "That murderer is
going to kill us all!"

The other woman, Bernadette Wederan, agreed. "If I ever going to see
someone, who even has a murderous look in his eyes, I'm going to
report him to security!"

"Well," a voice said from behind, "how do you know that murderer
looks?" The voice belonged to Esther Haldora, a 21 year old starfleet
cadet. She had long brown hair, that she wore in a pony-tail, and her
eyes were usually ruby-green. She had been assigned to this starbase,
because of her 'field training', that belonged to her academy
studies.

"Ow, Esther.." Bernadette said. "How terrible that you, at your young
age, should be confronted with such a heinous event..." She paused,
and looked at Esther. "Did you know this man well?"

Esther studied the two ladies... she always came here to have a
drink... and to talk to Bernadette and Ayla. She enjoyed it, and it
gave her the much-needed routine, to start the day. "Vaguely." She
said. "I saw him walking down the corridors some times... we had a
talk... but I didn't really know the man that well..."

"Listen to that.." Bernadette laughed out. Her whole body shook from
laughing. It was a strange sight... after someone had been
murdered... Other people looked at the woman... who now had tears in
her eyes, from laughing. "Nobody," she almost shouted, "knew that
man... and here we are grieving about him!"

Esther shrugged. She knew Bernadette longer then this... this was
just her way to get rid of the fear.. the uncertainty of what was
happening. And, Esther could understand that. She looked at Ayla, and
Ayla looked back. Both now looked at the Huanni, who was crying...
instead of laughing. ~It mustn't be easy...~ Esther thought. ~Being a
Huanni, with all these emotions...~ She started to feel sorry for the
alien.. So she put her hand on Bernadette's shoulder. "Come.." she
simply said.

The Huanni did as she was told. She leaned on Esther's shoulder, and
made the room be filled with the sound of her cries. "Noone is safe!"
she sobbed. "We're all going to die!"

"Ssshhh.." Esther said, trying to soothe her friend. "We're not going
to die.. everything is going to be alright..."

Suddenly... a tall man, wearing a silver garment, strolled by. He
took one look at Esther... and Esther looked back at him. Just for
one moment... at that moment, time seemed to be frozen. Esther's eyes
met the man's... She just nodded. She knew what she had to do.

"Listen Bernadette..." Esther said, while putting each of her hands
onto a different shoulder. "I.. I have to go now. Ayel will take care
of you..."

"Please Esther.." Bernadette said, still half crying. "Don't... don't
go..."

"I have to."

With this, Esther removed her hands from the Huanni's shoulder. She
nodded at both women... and walked away, leaving two scared women
behind...

~Why... why am I doing this?~ she thought to herself. ~Is this what I
want? Is this who I am? Who I want to be?~ She wasn't sure... Even
when she walked towards the corridors... to the for her, well known
quarters, she was still doubting herself. Was this wat she really
wanted?

A few minutes later.. she stood before the doors... the doors she
knew so well. The doors she had been going in for quite some time.
Ever since she had come to this starbase. And every time she came
here, she had trouble going through with it. Trouble to push the call
button... But every time... and this was no exception, she did push
it. And every time, that familiar sound filled the room, and her
ears. And every time, she heard a soft, dark voice saying the same
word: "Enter."

She swallowed to herself, and took a deep breath. Every time she
entered this room, cold chils went down her spine. She knew that
would happen. But still... she entered. The doors closed behind her.
There she stood.. in this dark room. Although it was an ordinary,
normal starfleet-type room, this man had changed it.. making it
look... dark. Mysterious. The atmosphere in the room was the same. It
fitted the man... the man behind the desk. He himself was like the
room... dressed in a dark, mysterious silver garment.

"Have you completed the task I have given you?" the dark voice of the
man asked... filling the room.

At times like these, Esther couldn't speak... not that she didn't
know what to say... but the man always seemed to intimidate her. She
had often thought about this man. How he could intimidate people this
well. Or could he? Was she the only one that was intimidated?

After a little while... she spoke up. "I did what you asked." She
said, soft... unsure of herself. "Now... am I accepted?"

"That you are..." the man said. Although Esther couldn't see the
man's face, she knew he was smiling... "But don't forget..." he
continued, slower this time. "You thought having to kill this man was
tough..." Again, the man paused. "But now that you have been
accepted... you will have to things far worse then that..."

To be continued...

The Frontier Fleet Song by Rob Versteegt
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi all!

Since the Atlantis has joined us (a few months ago already!!!) I've
updated the FF song... I already did that a few months ago, but I
forgot to put it in the newspaper... Sorry... ;-)

But here it is: the modified Frontier Fleet song! (By Rob Versteegt)

(On the tune of "Wild Rover")

I've been in Frontierfleet for many's a year.
And I'll tell you my story, if you want to hear.
It's brave, it's courageous, and funny no doubt!
So let me explain what Frontierfleet's about!

Refrain
There's the Calhoun, Ody,
And the Valkyrie too!
Pandora, and Atlantis,
They all need more crew!

Ten thousands of lightyears, the Calhoun's away,
The quadrant named Delta, is where they will stay.
Their home is a station, that's called Delta One,
To which they retreat if the Borg make them run. <G>

Refrain

The Odyssey's mission is simple, yet short.
Exploring new regions, you'll never get bored.
The captain is bluish, his uniform red.
We all think the colours just don't match with that! ( ;-) )

Refrain

A state of the art ship, the Valkyrie is.
It's too bad the crew doesn't resemble this.
They're misfits, they're losers, but yet they are kind.
If you are in trouble, you know who to find. <EG>

Refrain

Pandora the station is simply the best
Their well armed torpedo's defeat all the rest.
Too bad that the station is stuck on it's place.
The crew has to move now, to meet a new race. (:P)

Refrain

Atlantis, the new one, is quite young but brave,
Exploring the Gamma, they know they're not safe.
A Captain named Essar's commanding this ship.
The crew suffers much under his leadership.

Refrain

If you think you'd like this, then know what to do!
Just join us, and post some, we're ready for you!
And as for the members, you know what is wrong?
You ought to be posting, not singing this song!

Refrain.
