And here it is again: Frontier Fleet's very own newspaper, the Federation
Tribune! Filled with interesting status reports, stories, articles, and
things from all over Frontier Fleet. (No Trek Trivia this time, sadly...
maybe next time! ) If you want to contribute to the newspaper, then please
do! Send an article, story, or whatever, to chiefeditor at frontierfleet.com,
before November 10th, and it'll be placed in the November edition then. ;-)

Also, (and I know it's a bit early for that, :P) I'm planning a special
Christmas Edition. So if you have any ideas about articles, stories,
recipies, or anything else that's got to do with Christmas (and preferably
Star Trek and/or Frontier Fleet), just send it to me! I look forward to
reading those articles already...

Well, that's that for the Chief Editor's notes for this time. Enjoy the
newspaper!

STARDATE 2392.04.25

Episode #25: "The Explorers' Fifteen" (just starting)

Location of the Calhoun: holding position near Starbase 32, along the
Tholian border (in the Alpha Quadrant)

For some, shore leave was relaxing, a chance to spend time with friends,
colleagues and loved ones, and just enjoy some time off. For others, shore
leave took them straight to a derelict vessel seemingly intent on holding
them aboard while it pushed them into violent insanity. Fortunately, the
intervention of the Calhoun prevented any permanent harm from befalling
anyone.

Now, the Calhoun has been called to defend Starbase 32 against possible
upcoming Tholian attacks. But barely had they arrived when their captain
vanished into thin air. . .

--------------------------------------------------------------------
USS Odyssey Status Report, by Dennis Church.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Stardate: 2391.08.27 (as indicated in Rob's NRPG, to correctly work with the
timing of Barclay's message on the 26th).

A staff meeting is held on the Odyssey to discuss the upcoming refit - and
more specifically, the addition of transwarp to the Odyssey's capabilities.
Promotions are handed out, and the ship begins buzzing as to what these
changes will mean for the fleet, and for the crew of the Odyssey, as other
members of the crew plan their shoreleaves.

Later on in the day, Ensign Greystone's father (a vulcan, no less) made a
surprise appearance on the Odyssey, with an equally shocking announcement
that Ensign Greystone was betrothed to a Vulcan woman, and was to be
married. captain Bennek agreed to perform the ceremony in roughly two weeks
time, on 2391.09.08.

Stardate: 2391.08.28

The Odyssey arrives at Betazed for their initial transwarp briefing by
Admiral Karrefix and Commodore Urgo. Captain Bennek, Commander Denebris, and
Lieutenants Davis, Nerell, and Elan are the notable attendees.

Stardate: 2391.08.29

Katherine Creevel, a cousin of ASTC John Harmondale, arrives on the Odyssey

Stardate: 2391.09.08

A wedding between Alex Gerystone and Sub Commander T'Kella (his wife) is
held on the USS Odyssey, with Captain Bennek performing the ceremony.

USS Valkyrie Status Report, by John Hardy.

Stardate: 2392.04.25

Location: In orbit of New Amsterdam Colony

Second Officer's Log: Whilst my own shore leave turned out to be rather
uneventful, this has not been the case witha number of officers. I have
heard rumours regarding Lieutenants McKenzie and PaRel, and shall find time
to speak with them in the not too distant future.

Our CONN position has been filled by Ensign... sorry, Lieutenant Schofield.
I congratulate the man, but wonder whether he is yet ready for the demands
it will place upon him. Dr McKenzie has been appointed our new Chief Medical
Officer, whilst Lieutenant PaRel is now our Chief Science Officer. Again, my
congratulations go out to both individuals.

There have also been changes within the command team, and Commander Maiek is
now the CO, while Captain Main joins the staff of Fleet Command on Pandora
Station. I have been promoted to Lieutenant Commander and remain the Second
Officer. This leaves us without an FO, but I trust Starfleet Command will be
appointing someone to the position soon.

Our current mission finds us orbiting New Amsterdam Colony, on what has
proved to be a rather straightforward mission to provide supplies. I am
hoping we will be underway again soon. End log.

Pandora Station Status Report, by Rob Versteegt.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The crew of Pandora Station rejoiced, when word got around that their
station had been chosen to act as Headquarters of this new Transwarpfleet.
They had their work cut out for them: the USS Odyssey *and* the USS Solstice
would have to be refitted with Transwarp, the entire Admirals' Deck had to
be prepared for the arrival of the Frontier Fleet Command Team, and of
course, both civilian and Starfleet traffic would increase.

Nevertheless, during the refits, the crew of Pandora Station found the time
to go on shore leave. Some of the crew decided they did not want to take a
break from work though, since there was still enough to do.

At 2392.04.10, a day before the big gathering at Pandora Station, all the
crewmembers were once again back, ready to do their jobs which, with all the
Transwarpships nearby, was getting more hectic every moment. . .

USS Atlantis Status Report, by Ben Versteegt.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Although it is customary to present a summary of all events for each
stardate, doing so in this case would result in a log entry so long that I
would be told never to make a mission summary again. So instead I will
present the distinguished Admirals and other readers of this status report
with a short summary that covers the entire shore leave period -- and more.

An important stardate to include is 2391.05.28: after being trapped on a
derelict ship, the away teams finally managed to return to the Atlantis and
put the mission behind them.

Stardate 2391.08.27 is important, too: it was at that date that Captain Torn
received the message from Admiral Barclay, stating that the Atlantis was
going to be part of a transwarp-capable fleet. Upon receiving the message,
the ship turned around and headed towards the wormhole at high warp. They
arrived at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in orbit of Mars on Stardate
2391.09.08, a few minutes before midnight (and, coincidentally, the
deadline). Admiral Barclay came to inspect the vessel and her crew the
following day.

On that day, the problem posed by Lieutenant Rofellian was discussed. The
command team didn't trust the Romulan Lieutenant, but the latter would not
agree to a mind-probing by Lieutenant Jomorr. His refusal only added to the
suspicions that Rofellian was a Romulan spy. Curiously enough, Starfleet
Intelligence sent a message to Captain Torn, warning him not to interfere,
and saying that they were already keeping an eye on Rofellian.

After the Admiral's visit, the refit began, as did shore leave for many
crewmembers. The crew of the Atlantis went to very different locations, such
as Deneva Prime for Lieutenant Montgomery and Ensign Vil, Mars for
Lieutenant Jomorr and Ensign Andersson, and Earth for Lieutenant Singh,
among others. Commander Velden went to command school, while Ensign Sh'lin
also went back to the Academy to study to become a transporter operator.
Later that year, Commander Velden was temporarily assigned to the USS Escher
as First Officer, before returning to the Atlantis again in time for the
completion of the refit.

And now it is almost time... time for the Atlantis to leave Utopia Planitia
and resume her mission of exploration... This time as a proud member of the
Frontier Fleet.

Public Relations Status Report, by Rob Versteegt.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

September has been a month with a bit more signups than last month, but
still, there aren't as many signups as we'd like. Come on people, if you
even read this status report, then give me your suggestions!

There were 12 signups this month, and only 2 of them were good enough to be
accepted to the Academy. 3 of those 12 signups were doubles. (or should I
say triples)

Here is where the signups found us:

5: Google or another search engine.
5: Friends pointed FF out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Our Gamemaster seems a serious person, but from the following post you can
conclude he has humor as well. In May 2002 he posted the following with his
character Toad, a young boy that was adopted by Captain Main. The Security
guard York never replied, a pity because it could have resulted in a whole
subplot. One thing you have to know about the Odyssey before reading, is
that there are holoemitters all over the ship. Have fun with "the search for
the holy grail":

Subject: BD: Toad

(USS Odyssey - Hallway near Holodeck - 2390.09.26, 1515)

"Computer, I wanna play Rockey King," Toad said.

<> There are no holodecks available. <>

"But I wanna play it!!"

<> Starting shipwide Rockey King simulation. <>

"Thank you, computer." ~ But why did it then say there were no holodecks
available ? Oh, well, holy grail, here I come! ~

Toad started walking around the ship. He had to find the starting point of
his quest. Suddenly he noticed the (holographic) footprints of a horse. He
started to follow them. Then, all of a sudden, he heard a motorbike coming
his way, and quickly he hid in the nearest corridor that split from the
corridor in which he was following the trail.

Just after he was around the corner he saw the motorbike passing by,
apparently also following the horse trail.

Toad waited for a moment to calm down. He then emerged into the corridor
again and continued to follow the trail.

He then came across a crewman.

"Hey, did you see a horse maybe? Or a motorbike?" Toad asked him, trying to
determine how far those were ahead of him.

"A horse? A motorbike? On the Odyssey?" the crewman said. "Young boy, those
cannot be seen in these corridors as we do not have those aboard."

"Ow, okay, then I'll continue following the trail," Toad said, "Thanks
anyway."

And Toad went on his way again, leaving the crewman standing perplex as he
noticed that Toad was indeed following a horse trail with here and there the
skid marks of a motorbike. He closed his eyes for a moment, and when he
opened them again, Toad had disappeared from his view. And so had the horse
trail with the skidmarks. ~ It's getting time for some vacation ~

Toad continued to follow the trail running. Suddenly he noticed the
motorbike standing in the middle of the corridor. Curiously he walked
towards the strange thing, for he had never seen a motorbike before.

It appeared to him to be some kind of vehicle. And there were footprints
further down the corridor. Silently Toad was standing near the motorbike,
studying it.

All of a sudden, he heard some rumbling coming towards his location. He
started looking into the direction the sound was coming from. Then,
somewhere behind his back, he heard some doors opening, but he didn't pay
attention to it. Instead, noticing what was coming his way he turned around
to ran back to the nearest midsection as he couldn't stay in this corridor.

In doing so he surprised the man that had just entered the corridor so much
that the man stepped back, made a misstep and fell to the floor. Thereafter
a whole collection of rocks rolled over him.

When the rocks passed Toad, Toad noticed there was some red stuff on them.
Toad waited some moments until the corridor was clear again and then looked
into it again.

That red stuff couldn't be from that man down there, now, could it? And when
he looked again, Toad saw that that was indeed not the case. From the room
the man had come from he heard a voice call out: "Hey Sanka, are you dead
man?"

The man on the floor responded groaning "Ja man!"

In the meantime, having seen the man on the floor had not suffered a thing
from the rocks, Toad had continued his quest.

~ What happened to the man on the motorbike? And what to the person riding
the horse? And what to the horse? Where are they? Would the rocks have
surprised them? ~

Toad continued, and suddenly he noticed the footprints changed into two
pairs while the horse trail went into another corridor. The footprints led
him into the Jeffries tubes, and he decided to climb down, which he figured
the owners of the footprints had done too.

But he didn't came very far, as suddenly, when the access panel to the lower
deck opened, a bear started growling at him. Quickly Toad changed his
direction to upstairs instead of downstairs, and after some moments of
climbing up he noticed a set of handprints.

~ Apparently I was mistaken and they've been climbing upstairs! ~ Toad
thought, opening the access panel and leaving the Jeffries tubes on a higher
deck.

Running through the corridors on that deck, Toad passed Ilyaev. "Hiya!" Toad
said, not stopping for some chatting. After all, he was going to find the
Holy Grail, there was no time to stop for a chat.

The next person he encountered was Releina. Toad stopped for a small moment
to get some breath.
"Hi Releina. Did you see someone walking that way?" he said pointing further
down the corridor. Not really giving Releine the chance to answer he
continued, "Ow, okay. Thanks, bye!!"

And of Toad ran again.

Suddenly he bumped into someone. He looked up... and then a big smile
appeared on his face. "Ow, hi uncle Jim. Sorry about that. Gotta go on,
cya!"

And on Toad went again.

~ Where would that grail be hidden? ~

Then Toad got an idea.

~ The grail needs protection, right? So where else would it be then in....
the Security Office!! ~

Toad ran through the corridors, going left, going right, dodging all other
people walking through the corridors, and changing towards the correct
directions at the intersections. Finally he arrived at the security office,
and without using the chime he stormed in.

"Where is it?" he asked.

(Reply York)

"Well, the grail of course!!" Toad answered the confused York. "Thé Holy
Grail!"

(Reply York)

"Ow, it isn't here? Then, where did you store it for protection?"

(Reply York)

"But.. the Holy Grail needs protection!"

(Reply York)

"Ow, you don't have it. Why didn't you say so immediately?"

(Reply York)

"Okay," Toad said, rushing out of the security office, "Bye!"

And now Toad was completely lost. If security wasn't protecting the grail,
then who was? And where would it be?

(Reply Shyzala, Ilyaev, Janssens, York, any)

Back to the Calhoun, part 3, by Rob Versteegt.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary: Jeff Jalando has been sent back in time to the launch of the USS
Calhoun. Temporal agents suspected him from destroying the Calhoun just
after launch, but so far, he hadn't done anything to destroy the first
working Transwarp vessel. Now though, the Calhoun itself runs into trouble,
since it is stuck in transwarp, and there are several systems in Engineering
about to blow up. . . will Jalando save the day, or only speed up the
Calhoun's destruction? Find out, in:

Part 3 of "Back to the Calhoun".

Jalando was running like a madman, trying to get to Engineering. He had to
get there soon: from there, he would be able to stop whatever systems were
threatening to blow up. Oh sure, the Calhoun's engineering department would
probably have things under control. . . but still, armed with the knowledge
that the Calhoun could be destroyed at any moment, - and that he was thought
to be responsible for its destruction. No, he had to make sure the Calhoun
would not be destroyed.

When he entered Engineering, there were people working everywhere.
Immediately, Jalando decided he would help in. . . whatever these people
were doing. He knew how the transwarpdrive worked, he knew how to repair
broken conduits. . . he could be a valuable asset to this Engineering crew.
Or at least, he hoped he would.

After a little while of working, repairing, rerouting power and trying to
stop the power from leaking away, a voice filled the room: it was ACEO
Harris, talking to CEO Baugh. "Sir, I've got the by-pass system ready in two
minutes and fifteen seconds. Is there anything we need to do between now
and then?" The man asked, before the computer chimed in.

<>By-pass system online in two minutes.<> The computer now said, telling
everyone that time was running out.

But before anyone could answer, Engineering, and probably the rest of the
ship, shook hard. People started falling down, hitting heads, losing
consciousness. . . or at least, that was what seemed to happen to the ACEO.
Mr. Harris, with blood pouring from an open wound, lay there, unconscious,
on the floor.

Few Engineering people were still on their feet, but Jalando was one of
them. So was the CEO. Their priority now was to make the Calhoun stable
again. . . to make sure that the powersurges which were about to happen -as
Jalando could see on the controls- would in fact *not* happen. In order for
the Calhoun to be saved though, some things still had to be done. Jalando
was working on making sure that the main power could be shut down. . . but
that could, as everyone well knew, only be done by the lever in the corner
of Engineering. . . and with this much power having to be shut down, in the
condition the Calhoun was in now. . . well, that was pretty dangerous. And
everyone knew that.

"That does it." Jalando reported, before turning towards Mr. Baugh, the CEO.
"That lever has to be pulled. . . but. . ."

He didn't have to finish his sentence. . . the CEO knew the dangers, but he
still walked towards that lever. One final look at the Engineering crew who
were working in this section. . . and then. . . the lever was pulled. Again,
shocks echoed through the Calhoun's Engineering, and again several
crewmembers fell to the ground. Explosions were everywhere. . .

When Jalando opened his eyes, he looked at the CEO, who lay there, nearly
buried by rubble. The ACEO was sitting next to him, only to stand up now. It
was obvious: The CEO had lost his life, saying the ship.

"What's the news?" ACEO Harris now asked, his voice thick with emotions. How
could it not be? After losing one's superior officer. . .

Another officer, who was standing near the ACEO, spoke up, giving him the
reports. "We have minimal main power...next to none. It fails in thirty
seconds. Auxiliary is standing by. Engineering is pretty bad. Two
officers on their way to sickbay. Power relays shot to hell, override blew
and we are nearly dead in the water."

Mr. Harris seemed to go through emotional turmoil. That was only logical:
who wouldn't? Still, the man seemed to realise that orders had to be given.
So he gave them. "Get me auxiliary power." The man said. "I want damage
control to start me a list of what's affected, starting from top to bottom
of the ship. Three, I need a report on those two engineers. Fourth, get me
a medkit. Fifth, get this ship up and running. I'll be at the ship map.
You have your orders."

Jalando merely nodded, and, like most of the Engineering crew, walked away.
But he didn't stay in Engineering: The Engineering crew could manage things
on their own now. No. . . Jalando would go somewhere else now. . . he would
see how the status of the rest of the ship was now, at this point. . . maybe
there was something else he could help with. Just to keep his mind from that
last look CEO Baugh gave him. . . to think about something else than the
death of this man.

But he didn't walk very far. Only a few minutes had passed, when he heard
the voice of Ensign Harris through his commbadge. =/\=Attention crew of the
Calhoun. For the next seven minutes, we are gonna get hit with massive
power surges. Watch your stations and watch your levels. Engineering is
going to Red Alert. Harris out.=/\=

Jalando sighed. He wanted to help these Engineering people. . . he wanted to
make sure that the Calhoun would not be destroyed. But. . . he had already
interfered. . . he had made it possible for the Calhoun to be saved, but in
the process, he had been responsible for CEO Baugh's death.

No. He wouldn't go back to Engineering. Not now. He wasn't part of the
Engineering crew anyway. He would go somewhere where he could find out what
was happening, and what the consequences were of this emergency power being
activated. . .

*****

He had gone to Sickbay. Not only because there he could see what this
emergency power had done to people -since as a result of that, there seemed
to be many injuries- but also because if these power surges Mr. Harris was
talking about would strike Sickbay, there could be loss of life. . . and
Jalando wanted to prevent that.

Sickbay it was. Well, that was also a good place to find out what had
happened. Or at least, that was what Jalando discovered. There was a
scientist lying here, who had been injured while one of the consoles
exploded in his face. The man had told Jalando that the Calhoun had been
pursued by several space-creatures, who seemed to be living in the
transwarprealm. They seemed to have been attracted to the ship -or to
Captain Vaun. . . the rumours about that were vague-, until a larger
creature came along, and was going to ram the Calhoun. Dr. Bren had ordered
all the power to go down, including the shields, so that this creature would
not see the Calhoun as a threat anymore. However, Commander Main -who had
been locked in his quarters for assaulting a child- had somehow overruled
Mr. Logix, the STC, and had thereby raised the shields, protecting the
Calhoun from the impact of this creature. It had worked. . . and if the
Commander had not been there, the Calhoun would have been destroyed.

Jalando swallowed. If he had been in Commander Main's place, and Captain
Kane would have ordered something Jalando had not liked. . . would he have
overridden the consoles? He didn't know, and in fact, he hoped never to find
out.

Now that Jalando knew what had happened, he decided it was time to pay
Commander Main a visit. Could he perhaps be the saboteur who would destroy
the Calhoun? Maybe. . . Before he would go there though, he would check on
the Sickbay systems here. Just to make sure that no systems would shut down,
and thus be unable to save patients.

"Doctor, what's your name?"

Jalando looked up from his work -he was checking some consoles for damage-
and saw the EMH looking at a patient. "A name?" The EMH said, while he shook
his head. "I don't have a name. . . EMH's done have a name, so I don't have
one either. Now hold still, so that I can treat you, okay?"

But the patient didn't like this. "No doc. I won't be treated by some
nameless doctor. That's like a. . . a nameless Captain commanding a ship!
It's just not right!" The patient shook his head violently. Obviously the
man was shaken up by what he had experienced during these explosions or
whatever had caused him to be injured.

The EMH sighed. "Very well, I'll get a name." With that, the hologram turned
to Jalando. "You there. Ensign. Think of a name."

Jalando's eyes opened wide. "Me?"

"No, the Easter bunny." The EMH replied. "Look man, this man needs
treatment, and he doesn't let me treat him, if I don't have a name. So give
me a name. . . any name. . . so that I can treat this man, and he'll live."

Jalando swallowed. Any name. . . countless names ran through his mind. "Uhm.
. . Uh. . ." He started.

"Come on, I don't have all day!" The still-nameless EMH nearly shouted. "I
need to treat this man *now*! Give me a name!"

"Uh. . . Zoe!" Jalando shouted out the first name which came up in his mind.
It was a strange name. . . one not really fit for a hologram. But this EMH
seemed to like it. "Sounds good." 'Zoe' told him. "Thank you Ensign, you
might have just saved this man's life." With that, Zoe started working on
treating these injuries.

Jalando frowned, and shook his head. "You're welcome." He muttered, before
he looked around Sickbay again. There, on a biobed, he saw someone familiar.
. . "Bill Janssens. . ." It was future-captain Janssens' brother. And he was
unconscious! The blast must have knocked him out as well. "Excuse me nurse."
Jalando said to a passing medical officer. "But. . . will Mr. Janssens there
be alright?"

The nurse looked and him in a way which let Jalando know that there was
something wrong. "Maybe." She simply said, and then looked down at Jalando's
hand. "Ah. . . I see."

Jalando looked down at his hand as well. During the explosions in
Engineering, he had cut his hand. Nothing to go to sickbay for, but still,
this nurse seemed to have focussed her attention on that. A moment later
though, Jalando saw why. There were all kinds of red spots surrounding the
wounds. "Uhm. . . those spots. . ." Jalando started. "Is that a good sign?"

The nurse now shook her head. "It seems to be a virus." She told Jalando. "A
manufactured virus, but a virus nonetheless. Dr. Bren has found that out,
and went to the conference room, to report that we have a saboteur on
board."

"Saboteur?" Jalando repeated. "How so?"

"This virus is, as I said, manufactured." The nurse told him. "It's not
natural. Whoever created it, had the intention to kill the entire crew. . ."
She swallowed. . . not surprisingly, since this was certainly some
disturbing news. "Anyway, the virus works slowly, so it shouldn't affect
you, or any of us, just yet. Maybe in a day or so. . . a few hours. . .
then, if no treatment is being found, we'll start feeling the effects. But.
. . not yet."

"Thank you nurse." Jalando said with a worried look on his face. "That's. .
. good to know. Can I leave Sickbay in the meantime?" The success of his
mission relied on him moving around the ship freely. Being confined in
Sickbay would seriously hamper his freedom of movement.

The nurse looked at him as if he was crazy. "You're ill, Ensign. You should
be in Sickbay."

But Jalando shook his head. "I need to repair several systems, before we can
even start thinking about a cure." This wasn't really the truth, but he
needed to get out of Sickbay. "I'll come back later. Anything I can. . .
bring along for you then?"

The nurse sighed, and shook her head. "Very well then. But this goes against
my better judgement. If you're out there, bring me canister B 32 from the
storage area: Deck 10, section. . . 5, I think. It contains some medical
equipment which we might need."

"Acknowledged." Jalando said in reply, and then nodded at the nurse, as he
walked out of the Sickbay. ~Well, let's go to the Storage Room first then. .
. ~ He figured.

When he got there though, it seemed as if someone already got there earlier.
In front of him, stood STC, Mr. Logix. "Computer," The Android said, "open
this door. Authorization Logix, four gamma seven theta six."

With that, a heavy, secured door was opened. Jalando could not yet see what
was inside, but he would, later. He didn't want the STC to see him lurking
around here: that might make the android suspicious. When Mr. Logix left
though, Jalando quickly entered the room. . . only to see several grenades,
canisters which seemed to contain the virus, Borg nanoprobes. . . this
wasn't a storage room, it was an armoury!

But behind all of that, another door opened. A man stepped in. . . a rather
familiar man. A man who didn't belong on the Calhoun. . . that much was
certain. "What?" Jalando nearly shouted out. "You?"

To be continued.
