Chief Editor's Notes:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Extra, extra, read all about it! In this issue, there's an interview with
the new and the old Academy Commandant. Also, a couple of Cadets do the
talking. But besides that, we have a lot of other interesting articles in
this issue as well. You can do the quiz again! And, as always, the
fascinating status reports are accessible to you as well. Not to mention the
promotions, posting stats, and... well, more than that as well. You'll just
have to look and see.
Have fun!

USS Calhoun Status Report, June 2006, by Adrien Rodd
--------------------------------------------------------------------
STARDATE: 2392.10.15
LOCATION: en route to Pandora Station (c. one day away)
Episode #27: "Change of Mind" (season 2)
After an uneventful few weeks, the Calhoun is heading towards Pandora
Station. The journey would not be complete without something unexpected
happening, however, and when the crew wake up in one another's bodies, they
are at a loss to understand what has happened, and must adapt to an
extremely unsettling situation. . .

USS Odyssey Status Report June 2006, by Rob Verlinden.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Stardate: 2392.07.07
Location: Romulan Neutral Zone
The malfunction in the transwarp engine took some time to be fixed. Luckily
a Romulan counterspy on the warbird caused the Warbird to cloak. Unable to
decloak, the Romulans withdrew. The USS Odyssey safely made it to Federation
space.
Stardate: 2392.09.20
Location: Pandora Station
After dropping the Romulan refugees on a planet near Outpost 11, the Odyssey
returned from the Romulan border. There are numerous crew transfers, so
there are many new faces aboard the Odyssey. The staff meeting will be the
first opportunity for the new crew to mingle in.

(] SUMMARY [)
After a mission that - while not being successful - cannot be said to have
failed, the crew of the Valkyrie - to the happiness of all - have been
granted two days shore leave. The vast majority have opted to make use of
the surface of New Meade, and have been welcomed by the Varnii who inhabit
the planet.

USS Atlantis Status Report
June 2006
Stardates:
- 2392.07.12
- 2392.07.13
- 2392.07.14
Locations of the (crew of the) USS Atlantis:
- In Deasian space, approximately 2,7 light years away from the planet
Helteka in the Andari system, in the Gamma Quadrant, at a position roughly
1000 light years from the wormhole.
Summary:
- 2392.07.12
Starfleet and Deasian crews got to know each other a little better as time
passed by. Some officers won the trust of the crew, others did not. More
than once, tensions aboard the ships rose to a new record, especially since
there seemed to be more to many crewmembers than met the eye. After the
mutiny on the L'tari 13, it has become clear to the Starfleet crew that
there were Deasians who disagreed with the way Blev Traa envisioned the
L'tari convoys.
Tes Bete, the man who led the mutiny on the L'tari 13, was one of those
Deasians. He felt that it was wrong to sacrifice Deasian lives to repay a
terrible debt to the dying Heltekans. The L'tari 13, taken over by Bete and
his crew, set course to Deasia to use the supplies on board to save at least
some of those Deasian lives. Aid Master Blev Traa intercepted the L'tari 13
with his own ship, the L'tari One, but was forced to let the L'tari 13 go on
its way after the two ships had successfully defended themselves against a
pirate attack.
Having established that the journey to Helteka would require multiple
six-hour warp jumps, the crews of the various ships struggled to get their
engines, equipment and crew ready in time for the re-launch of the convoy.
On the L'tari 23, called "T'Rinna", Commander Velden found that the crew was
far from sympathetic towards him; he had made some decisions which had made
himself quite unpopular among some of the crew.
Other crews on board other ships, however, welcomed Starfleet guidance -- in
whatever form. On the L'tari 27, subsequently named "Saint Laurence",
Crewman Norman took command, with science officer Na'auao as his First
Officer. On board the L'tari 25 (designated "Remember Edan"), Lieutenant
Andersson got along quite nicely with one of the engineers, but her fellow
crewmembers didn't like him one bit.
The crew of the L'tari 39, named "Nival", was a diverse bunch, but
Lieutenant Jomorr seemed to have won the crew's trust, as did Lieutenant
Fletcher and Ensign Bukov on the L'tari 3, the "Starseeker". On the latter
ship, a crewmember died in what seemed like an accident but which could very
well have been a murder. The crewmember's last words concerned some sort of
gem which had to be protected at all costs...
At exactly 2045, the ships in the L'tari convoy -- those that were left,
anyway -- started their warp jump. They will drop out of warp in six hours,
at 0245, to let the engines of the T'Rinna cool off (otherwise it would
overload and explode). After waiting an hour, they will once again go to
warp for six hours. Right now, the convoy is holding a steady speed of
nothing less than warp 3.9...
- 2392.07.13:
After the convoy jumped out of warp at 0245 to allow the T'Rinna's engine to
cool off, Doctor Kadar experienced some problems on her ship, the Jatmay. It
turned out there were stowaways on that ship, too, just like on the T'Rinna.
Here, however, they seemed to be more hostile. One of them took Kadar
hostage and demanded to be allowed off the ship.
On the "Remember Edan", the friendly engineer with whom Lieutenant Andersson
had been socialising had become not so friendly anymore. When they were
alone in a corridor with little chance of anyone passing by, he pinned her
to the floor, hoping to take advantage of the situation. This sexually
frustrated engineer would have got what he wanted if Ensign Vox hadn't
intervened. There was a struggle in which both men got hurt, but Vox managed
to win in the end. For now, the engineer is rendered harmless, and Vox and
Andersson have grown a little closer together as they both recovered from
this ordeal.
- 2392.07.14:
Aboard the "Remember Edan", Vox had been healed and was well rested after a
long night's sleep. Unaware that Lieutenant Andersson has spent the night at
his side, he failed to understand the stories going around the ship at warp
speed. In the ship's mess hall, Vox was subsequently talking to Lieutenant
Montgomery, who did not know either what happened the night before. Nor did
Montgomery know what went on between Vox, Andersson and the engineer the day
before.
What Lieutenant Montgomery did find out was something of another nature
entirely... For what he discover was a skeleton in the closet...

Pandora Station Status Report, June 2006, by Rob Versteegt.

Pandora Station Status Report, June 2006
Locations:
- Pandora Station, in the Pandora System.
- Delta One
Stardates:
- 2392.07.07
- 2392.07.08
- 2392.08.24
- 2392.08.28
- 2392.09.15
- 2392.09.18
- 2392.09.19
Summary:
2392.07.07:
In an attempt to convince the Delta One crew that an entity is controlling
them, Commander Jalando and Counsellor Aslam beamed on board the Starbase,
trying to reach Deck 26, where this entity was located. Unfortunately,
Lieutenant Arquette and Ensign Gatto managed to stop the Solstice officers
from reaching their location. A verbal battle followed, and with every
passing moment, it became more and more apparent that Mr. Arquette and Ms.
Gatto would not listen to the Solstice Officers.
That was, until Lieutenants Vrass and Vok, who had made a daring escape from
their so-called guest quarters, disrupted the atmospheric controls inside
the cargobay where this entity lived. The entity's control over the Delta
One and Solstice crew who had been infected, lessened, and eventually
disappeared when the entity reverted to a smaller form. This entity was then
brought on board the Solstice, behind quarantine fields, to find bring it to
Pandora Station for studying. The Delta One crew returned to normal,
although some of the tension between the Solstice and Delta One crews
remained. . . since all still remembered what happened.
2392.07.08:
The USS Solstice jumped to Transwarp, a day later than planned. OPS Arquette
came to apologise to Commander Jalando, and vice versa. All seemed to be
well. . . but what the crew didn't know, was that an offspring of the entity
now in the Solstice's quarantine bay (called 'the Overlord') survived, and
was holding on to the outside of the Solstice, only to let go somewhere
along the journey back to Pandora. . . to continue its existence.
2392.08.24:
Engineer Ta'agk scared some of the crew by crawling through the Jeffries
tubes. It would seem that the crew didn't like encountering a 'monster' like
him in the early hours. . . Also, Reporter Darnena discovered that she has a
disease which will cause her to die. Not immediately, but in the near
future. According to medical estimations, she has 3 to 7 years left. She
asked Doctor Vok not to tell anyone. . .
2392.08.28:
Captain Kane, preparing for his final days as Captain of Pandora Station,
received word that Commander Jalando wouldn't become his successor, and that
the current FO of Pandora Station would be transferred to the USS Odyssey,
as First Officer. The latter was not happy about that at all.
2392.09.15:
As one of the final acts of being Captain of Pandora Station, Captain Kane
promoted Lieutenant Arquette to Lieutenant Commander. The Chief of OPS would
also transfer, and become Chief of Operations on board the Odyssey. With him
would go Communications Officer Gatto and XGO Underhill, to fill both their
positions on board the Intrepid Class Starship.
2392.09.18:
Both Arquette and Gatto were fully aware that this was their last night on
Pandora Station.
2392.09.19:
Commander Jalando and the man he was sent to replace, Captain Denebris,
talked about the Odyssey, Jalando's leaving, and the Valkyrie: the place
where Captain Denebris will go to. Reluctantly, Jalando walked around
Pandora Station one last time, to say goodbye. The following morning, he
would have to report to the Odyssey. 2392.09.19 would be his final day as
First Officer on board Pandora Station.
Also on the 19th, Lieutenant Commander Arquette and Ensign Gatto entered the
Transporterroom to say goodbye to Transporter Operator Dran, and to beam to
the Odyssey. A new chapter had begun for these officers. Goodbye Pandora,
hello Odyssey.

Public Relations Status Report, June 2006, by Rob Versteegt
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, there have been 13 signups last month. 13 more than no signups, but of
course it's not as much as we'd like to, now is it? 4 of those signups are
either in the Academy, or have been graduated already.
Where have these 13 signups found us?
7: Google or another search engine
1: Via a friend.
1: Just surfing the net
3: voting site / banner link
1: Unknown
And that's it for now! Since I did not receive any ideas for improving the
quantity of quality of signups, I won't mention anybody's name here besides
my own! <G> Seriously, if you have an idea, just submit it. It might be
useful.
With that note, and while saying that you have to vote at
www.frontierfleet.net/comm/vote, I'll end this brief Status Report. I hope
you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it. Or actually, I hope you
enjoyed it more than that. :P

Anyway, July will probably be my last month as Academy Commandant (yes, for
real this time :P) since Martin Miller will take over. I'm not sure if I'll
do the next Academy Status Report. If not, then I wish you all the best, and
I hope the new Academy Commandant will have a lot of work to do. :D Thanks

Pandora Station - News from the 'Crossroads bar', by Patrick Buidin.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear customers,
This month I've decided to share with you several recipes for another
traditional beverage, an alcoholic beverage renowned for its flavour and
potency which has been mentioned to be stronger than Earth whisky.
Some of you have certainly guessed that I'm speaking about the well know
Blood Wine.
Let's start celebrating battles, here is the first one, it's coming from my
uncle who had run a bar for several years on a klingon space station.
1 oz gold tequila
1 oz spiced rum
1 dash grenadine syrup
2 dashes Tabasco® sauce
cranberry juice
Add Tabasco sauce to an ice-filled beer mug/glass. Pour in the tequila, rum
and grenadine, and fill with cranberry juice. Shake twice and serve.
Serve in:
Beer Mug
The second one is coming from a Bolian bartender I've met on Risa during the
last international cocktails convention
8 oz Firewater
6 oz Everclear (the full strength stuff)
6 oz Triple sec
6 oz White tequila
3 dash Green food colouring
And for those who are stationed onboard the Uss Atlantis, spruce up the Ten
Forward Lounge and break out this rare treat.
1 gallon red Burgundy
1 cup brandy
1/4 cup lime juice
1/2 cup Cointreau
1 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp Tabasco Sauce
3 drops green food colouring
star fruit cut into slices
Directions
Mix everything together.
Let chill overnight.
Add sliced star fruit.
Serve from pitchers or a punch bowl.
Options
Mix in club soda to the wine before serving.
If serving from a punch bowl, put a chunk of dry ice in the bowl. This adds
a great visual, but be careful not to touch the ice with your hands!
Cheers and don't forget that this beverage has to be drank in moderation
Stay tuned for next month

An Interview with the old, the new and the. . . Cadet. By Rob Versteegt.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
(Written with the help of Martin Miller.)
Hi dear readers of this excellent Tribune!
The change of Command within the Academy caused this Interviewer to seek out
some information. And what better way to do that than with an interview? So
here goed:
Interview with the new Academy Commandant, Admiral Anyanka.
Interviewer: "Admiral Anyanka. I think congratulations are in order?"
Admiral Anyanka: "Not really no, but thank you for asking me for an
interview, I mean someone was going to have to be picked and just happened
to be me.
It was not all that difficult, there were a few other good candidates beside
me, and well I hope there was. I mean it wouldn't be much fun if I found out
I was the only one who applied for the job. Not that I wanted to compete
with anyone for the job, but I suppose I had to run against someone."
Interviewer: "So, Academy Commandant Anyanka. That must be pretty exciting,
doesn't it? A new title, a new job, new people to work with. . ."
Admiral Anyanka: "Well I maybe new to the job, but by no means the Academy,
I was here when it was first built. hmmm, no that doesn't sound right does
it. What I mean to say I was here about 40 years ago, not an exact time, a
lady never reveals her true age.
But I've been here a few years as an instructor and it seemed only natural
that this would be my next step, I mean no offence too my predecessor he did
a damn good job. I intend to exceed him and being the second female Admiral
to command the Academy, one would say I have a lot to live up too. I do not
see it that way, but as a new challenge, I don't do all the hard work, I
have to thank the Instructors for that as without them things would be hard
here in the Academy.
I do intend to take some cadets under my wing at some stage, but I am still
new to the job and there is all the meetings, and admin to be taken care of,
organising training schedules and various other tasks. So we shall have to
wait and see what the fortunes bring me."
Interviewer: "I bet it's difficult too. Admiral Baine has certainly made an
impression on the Academy. How do you feel about filling his shoes?"
Admiral Anyanka: "Oh I don't worry about it, besides my feet are not as big
as his so I'd be lost if I tried to fill his shoes.
If I was to think about every second of my job of how he did it, or how well
he has done it then I am afraid I wouldn't get any work done, as I would be
too worried what everyone would think of me. I am not the same person as
Admiral Baine, so expect things to be done differently here at the Academy
as if it wasn't then things would get boring and people would be expecting
so much of me.
This way I can do things my way and if people don't like it then I am afraid
I am not going to change my ways, as to speak from our not so distant past,
'It is my way, or the highway.'
As I said, its my now my turn as the head of the Academy and I do intend to
do things differently and I am not going to let Starfleet Officers dictate
to me what I can and cannot do, I of course will dictate to them."
Interviewer: "We all know that every Academy Commandant had a different
style. Admiral Karna for example, could change from being strict into being
casual amongst cadets. Admiral Baine seemed to dislike talking to Cadets in
his office, and preferred to go for a walk. What can you tell us about your
style of commanding the Academy?"
Admiral Anyanka: "An interesting question, If I were on a Starship then my
style would be very much different, my last command the USS Magellan I held
with much respect and dignity so there for it came naturally to command with
confidence and not such a sharp hard or barking orders just when necessary.
Its very much early days here at the Academy, the cadets are as fresh faced
as I was when I was finally accepted. It feels the same almost now, I am
doing something new and new horizons have opened too me. I hope you can
understand I cannot answer this question fully as I do not yet understand
how to approach the cadets. If I was to give an answer I would say this, I
hope to bring myself to their level, treat them as an equal and as a friend
as there will be plenty of time for the whole spit and polish appeal found
on most Starfleet vessels. I am not overly fond of the idea of being in the
'brass' so to speak and looking down on everyone, as it's not the way to be.
I will however keep my wits about me, and make sure they know if there was
ever a problem they can come to me about it. I will have to apologise to you
now, as I have given you too much of my time, as I have missed the start of
a meeting and they will be waiting for me too attend.
Good day to you, and again thank you for asking me for an interview for the
Federation Tribune."
Interview with a Cadet:
Interviewer: "Cadet, a few questions, if I may. Now that Admiral Baine is
leaving, can you tell us what kind of an Academy Commandant he was?"
Cadet: "Oh I don't know. Baine wasn't a terrible Academy Commandant, but to
say that he was excellent. . . well, that would be overstating his
importance. I mean, sure, he liked to socialise with the Cadets: at times,
he looked like a Cadet himself. Heh, I remember the time when he had
surprised us with a New Year's Eve celebration. Fireworks all around! That
was a great time indeed."
Interviewer: "But I thought you just said that Baine wasn't an excellent
Academy Commandant. And yet you are telling me all kinds of possible things.
What's up with that?"
Cadet: "Well, you see, as a person he was great. Excellent, wonderful, loved
by all. He socialised all the time, and we loved talking to him. But
whenever he stepped back into his role as Academy Commandant, we still saw
him as 'just one of the guys', at times. Not all the time of course, but
still. . . that could be difficult. You always had to try to find out
whether or not you should be polite to him, or just be yourself. It was. . .
confusing, from time to time."
Interviewer: "Ah, I see. And what about this new Academy Commandant, Ms.
Elizabeth Anyanka? What can you tell me about her?"
Cadet: "Pfff. Tough question. I don't know, actually. I mean, she looks like
an Academy Commandant, sitting at that desk, but. . . well, that's about it.
I haven't talked to her, personally. I just don't hope that she'll be a by
the book kind of Admiral. I mean, I don't mind the casual atmosphere which
exists here right now. It would be a shame if some new Academy Commandant
would ruin such an atmosphere."
Interviewer: "Thank you Cadet. I'll let you carry on with your studies."
Interview with departing Academy Commandant Robert Baine:
Interviewer: "Admiral, I think it's safe to say that the question on
everyone's lips is. . . why?"
Baine: "That's a very good question. Allow me to try to explain. You see,
being Academy Commandant was a great job. It allowed me to interact with
various interesting people, command an institute which is the very beginning
of Starfleet for most, if not all people, and of course, it allowed me to
watch those people -both Cadets and Instructors- grow each day. I loved that
part. What broke me up though, was the paperwork. And the time away from my
wife. Life was too hectic for me. I always told the Cadets to live life to
the maximum, since most of us only live once. And here I was, not following
my own advise. When I realised that, I also knew that it was time to go."
Interviewer: "And now, Admiral Anyanka takes over. Doesn't that bother you?"
Baine: "I'd be lying if I'd say that I didn't care. I'm still very fond of
the Academy. However, I have personally chosen Admiral Anyanka from the list
of candidates. I've talked to each and every one of the potential Academy
Commandants, and there was something special about this woman. Plus of
course the fact that she had plenty of experience as a Commanding Officer as
well as an Instructor. I can easily say that the Academy is in perfect
hands. I know for a fact that I won't have to worry about leaving this place
behind. Things won't explode just because I'm not there. It took me a while
to realise that of course, but when I did, it made going away so much
easier. Well, relatively speaking of course. Saying goodbye to everyone was
not easy at all."
Interviewer: "Yes, I've heard you were given a farewell reception, with all
the Cadets and Instructors. What was that like?"
Baine: "It was an emotional event, to be sure. We laughed, cried,
remembered. There were so many memories which I'm leaving behind now. So
many wonderful people whom I most certain am going to miss. I'll try to keep
in touch, but unfortunately I cannot keep in touch with every Cadet. Even
though I'd love to. So it was mostly an evening of goodbyes. . . And when I
left my office for one final time, I knew that it was over. The end of an
era for me. The beginning of a next."
Interviewer: "Speaking of which, what are you going to do now that you're no
longer on such a busy schedule?"
Baine: "I'm going to relax, of course! Spend time with Mrs. Baine. Talk to
Starfleet to see what my next job will be. I hope, of course, that it has
something to do with Science, and of course without all that annoying
paperwork."
Interviewer: "Then I wish you a great time Admiral. Thank you for
participating in this interview.
And there you have it folks. Some reactions to the news of Admiral Baine's
departure from the Academy, and Admiral Anyanka's rise to power. What
exactly this will have for effect on the Academy? Nobody knows. All we can
do is watch, and wish the new Academy Commandant lots of luck. Looks like
she's going to need it.
The Academy Commandant is gone.
Long live the Academy Commandant!
